If we signed a player on a free who was half decent - are we really going to put him on £10k a week and make him our best paid player just because (like most of the others) he didn't cost anything? Conversely, if we pay a fee of £500k, do we say to him sorry we'd pay you more but unlike most of your teammates we had to pay to get you here so you can't have as much as them! My guess is there's a wage structure and the transfer fee doesn't impact hugely on it (but what do I know?). I do agree he might end up with a better contract just on the back of having more teams interested in him, not many will want to pay a decent fee. Yes i take your point. It does work that way, but on a micro level compared to premier league wages. We may well have a wage structure (I hope we do) but many clubs will be less well run and will offer those higher wages. I’m good friends with a couple of league one / league two pros (both recently retired). The decision for them comes down to money and security. Do they accept a contract extension and have security, or risk waiting out for higher wages but getting injured in the meantime. Look at George Johnstone. He’s fortunate the club offered him that new contract. In another world, he could be an unemployed footballer right now considering offers from lower league one clubs. Quote

Reckon the police would be in favour of 4am kick offs. Fuck me there will be mither all over the gaff this season. Brum will be on tour all over with the novelty, Wrexham are fully loaded too. Even Mansfield have a decent lot. Quote

I suppose we could just pay it as a bigger signing on fee Quote

Armstrong's 27 in October, he's got one good 3-4 year contract left in him. Suspect he would at least double his wages at a club at our level, even if Killie offered him a new one. Get the point that for us it will be the total cost of the deal (fee plus wages) if Killie will sell. Quote

To an extent I understand the interest from a Netflix series perspective, but are there genuinely a decent amount of yanks that would be interested in watching a 3rd tier game with Steven Fletcher and the Juke up top? Both clubs have famous American/Canadian investors the 2nd game could be a big draw if they're both doing well. Quote

Reading autobiographies of various big names from years gone by confirms that. Can't blame them, they are in the game to earn what they can, while they can. Quote

Wanderlust Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 Bear in mind that Kilmarnock have qualified for the Europa League and the prospect of European football might be a reason to stay. They're playing Bruges on the 25th. Quote

Well, if our typical top player basic is £8k pw/£400k pa. & Kilmarnock is £2k/£100k then he'd get that. As ever I know f'call about the man & must trust our recruiters but if he wants to move or he doesn't let's sort the matter quickly or move on. Quote

Mad how people trust our recruitments when we have had some absolute shite and wasted money even after having players on loan and seeing they are shite Quote

Wanderlust Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 (edited) Tweet rumour: BWFC have signed Godfrey Bitok Stephen. Nigerian guy who played in Polish Prem until 2023 and then walked away "by mutual consent" and went to Hungary. Attacking LWB? Helluva obscure choice of player if it's a wind up - in which case fair play with bonus points for obscurity. Edited July 9, 2024 by Wanderlust Quote
