Agree we want to protect our assets, but any player signing a new contract will want a pay rise to sign, doubt they will sign up for the same, increasing the existing wage bill again this year when we are trying to add more to the squad.

It's a balance and I think the Board want them to prove their worth now.  If we get promoted Sheehan, Santos and Baxter will be only to happy to sign up again with us.  If not their time is up anyway.

Agree we signed all 3 on free transfers anyway . we shouldn’t be handing out new contracts before the season as started see how they perform and if they walk they walk

I'm surprised Pompey are interested, to be honest

He's been decent for us but nothing more. At £500K I'd accept, reinvest, move on.

If there's a Pompey fan reading in: Big question mark here about whether JDC is Championship standard.

I get your logic and tend to agree. However,  we've handed out contract extensions to players who haven't been getting in the team. So why wouldn't we with a player who had made the team of the season, and the 'best centre half outside the premiership' (sic)??

Something just not ringing true for me with all this, I'm just not sure what it is?

Because he probably doesn't currently want to sign one

So say that, don't spin it they need to play for a contract because that's utter bollox

He was in the League One team of the year as picked by the PFA so clearly he is highly rated amongst his peers.

I'm not sure it'd really help us of he did

Some things are better done in private

I'm not sure he's league 1 standard

I'd sell but then we've got zero wingbacks in the squad

I’d happily play Jones on the right. Even if Santos goes we have Johnston, Toal, Forster and Forino to play centre back so not need for Jones to be part of the back 3.

For a manager whose style of play is reliant on good wingbacks it would be a blow selling the clubs best wing back.I don't think the club would sign a better one for 500k in the next few weeks.Anyway it doesn't matter really because Bolton won't be promoted next season whther Cogley stays or goes. The real issue which half the fans on here voted for after hs pathetic effort against Oxford is that Bolton need a better manager

Jones is a better RWB than Cogley

£500k the classic money ball Evatt fee.  Like Cogley and think it will be a shame.

He played so many games last year. Cogley is quick, has a great engine and a great first touch, he also seems to be a wing back that Evatt can't break. He's broken a few now. Well worth a punt for the higher division. Jones is the one that can do one for me, overrated and nothing is ever his fault.

Think the sad thing for me is if we turned up on May 18th then it wouldn’t be a conversation

Wouldn’t be selling Cogley for 500k he’s easily good enough at league 1 level, him and Jones good enough pair to cover RWB why cause yourself a problem for only 500k. We already need LWB let’s not be on the look out for left and right wing backs.

Agreed. I don't get some of the pelters he gets off some on here. He had a great first season, made team of the year and a replacement would set us back a few hundred grand. If he's still got a couple of years left on his contract I'd be telling Pompey what to do with such a lame offer.

Voted by his fellow pros to be part of the divisional team of the season, always fit, but the wways jury has plenty saying hes not good enough

I suppose he can sit with jones, vic, randell, santos, dempsey and thomasson

Yeah up until the turn of the year he was arguably our best player, and then a bit like toal he was over worked and his form dipped.
