Fishing rights don't half get folk hot under the collar.

It's bizarre, especially as most British people refuse to eat seafood, the odd chippy visit aside. It means very little to their lives.

When you say 'most', from where do you get that stat? I only ask because I come from a family of big fans of fish, cockles, mussels, prawns, crab, lobster, whelks (not me on that one!) etc. Since moving down here I have become accustomed to regular serves of calamari, Balmain and Moreton Bay bugs and the huge range of available seafood here (you can keep abalone though!).

Isn't the point in this case that what the UK reaps from its own fishing grounds becomes a valuable and exportable asset rather than simply what British consumers may take?

I would imagine that fish consumption (and farming) may well increase in years to come as people look for alternatives to red meat, given its environmental bad press.

What is noticeable on the market fish stalls is the absence of certain fish: Pollock for example. Hugh F-W had a push on such lesser used species to alleviate pressure on cod and haddock. Seems it's not quite worked, though a lot goes into fish fingers and things.

Perhaps a bit of a marketing campaign post brexit and a few consumer cooking shows by chefs.

Same here, love virtually everything edible that comes from the sea.

No need to Mounts, I'd be delighted if that were to happen but as you constantly remind me 'ifs', 'buts' and 'maybes' don't pay the bills. I am happy to see how it all pans out and I'll share my opinions as just as I'm sure just as you will.    😉

Don't you like any of it?

You and Kent, that's a worry- piscophobia on the rise.

Not that I don't like it just that it's never something I'd choose to have.

Seafood sits below Quorn in my preferences.

If red meat and chicken became a no go then I'd just go veggie.

Good to see the meds have kicked in Pete.

I was a bit worried 😉

I don't eat seafood either.

Fish now and then, but none of the other stuff.

Fishing rights don't half get folk hot under the collar. Reduced stock and overfishing is an issue with or without the EU. Fishings +- impact is tiny for the UK economy yet it is always brought up. Sure, if you live in Grimsby then it could well be hugely important to you but in UK terms it is more emotive than anything.

She’s a Brexit Party MEP complaining about lack of UK representation?

Blimey

Correct sir, but did I actually quote the article ?

I think you need to employ Indianna Jones in your biased and futile search 🤭
