why is she bothered about it then?

A few moaning about the lack of involvement in decision making during the implementation period. That's just the way it is, the implementation period was set up to avoid a cliff edge, as requested by the majority of folk. The compromise of it allows us to start our own trade deals, but loose involvement in EU. All agreed to it, and it seems reasonable.

Concerns about the EU suddenly changing rules to fuck us over don't stand up to scrutiny. Rule changes take a while, and the implementation period stops at year end.

Moreover, I don't believe the EU would have that sort of intent, and it would come back to haunt them during trade negotiations.

In short, a bit of a non story.

Derision? I get more support than derision. And those who give out the derision are often discredited democracy deniers who have a perfect three year track record of getting everything wrong. Who cares about them?

I would respectfully say please stop mixing up populism and patriotism. They're very different. This goes right to the heart of what people like Thornberry, Starmer and the rest of the woke, self-entitled liberal elite don't understand. Until comparatively recently it was perfectly possible to be to the left of the political spectrum yet still be proud to be British. The current caste in the Labour Party sneers at patriotism - often with use of the word "populism" and an insinuation that to be proud of nationhood automatically means "far-right". Michael Foot was very left wing in the 1980s - but he was clearly proud and respectful of our institutions, our heritage and our democracy. The same could be said of Tony Benn - a man who was especially proud of our democratic heritage. That's what made him anti EU. Neither of John Smith or Tony Blair could be categorised as having anything like the same mindset as the current mob. Gordon Brown's idiotic 2010 election campaign reference to the Rochdale lady who expressed a view on immigration as a "bigot" was the first sign of what was to come.

What does the EU get the blame for? Mr Benn was correct. It gets blame for being deeply, deeply undemocratic. It has a fig-leaf parliament hiding where the power really lies - with unaccountable and unelected officials/commissioners. It gets the blame for incrementally seeking to suppress nation states with its creeping federalism and for the way it has blunted the growth of European economies with its oppressive and stifling regulation. The culture of this country's democratic and legal tradition is from communities upwards, not officialdom downwards. Power is with the people. That power is lent to politicians and can be taken away at elections if we see fit.  This is just not the case with the EU. Lots of people have had enough and that really counted in 2016 and 2019.

In summary - the left's dreadful woke squeamishness about many things including nationality/patriotism ..... and the EU's direction of travel and track record. Labour can undertake as many inquests and focus groups as they want - they won't be able to escape it if they want to be electorally credible. They're going to have to start holding their noses and representing the views of the working class rather than hectoring and lecturing to them.

You've really got a thing about some sort of elite metro-dwelling middle class, who said they were all left leaning, and who said the left aren't patriotic aside from you? You've conflated the two.

I agree that there is a disconnect, especially with the imbalance between the south east and the rest of the country - the UK is always bottom of capitalist city imbalance; but you can quite credibly argue his is as much a fault of the right.

There seems to be a twist in always making this out to be an issue of the left for some reason. As I said yesterday, I get the anger - but where we disagree is where it should be directed.

Out of interest fella, why could you credibly argue this is as much a fault of the right ?

Quite a blase comment to make

We won’t need representation when we leave they’re our waters.

But we've systematically dismantled the Royal Navy who were pretty good at protecting fishing waters back in the day.

There are many commentators who have identified the disconnect between a London-centric, middle class, University educated, woke Labour party and the working class. Not just me by a very long chalk.

Jess; it's not you

I like Jess in her no nonsense approach but there is no way on earth she was going to get anywhere near the top job and rightly so.

I expect the Tories will be rubbing their hands in glee when RLB gets the nod.

I know this much, when Brexit ends in tatters, any Labour leader will piss the next election.

Not at all only if you think the ONS is biased. I base my reasoned arguments on publicly and often quoted sources. I'll be just fine Si, no need to worry about me. 😉

Complete with his signed photo of Lord Anonis, his Gina Miller alter, four EU flags in each corner, his own painting of Steve Bray and a Nigel Farage dart board.

Oh .... and the wall adorned with George Osborne's 2016 Project Fear threats and predictions listed one by one. With a column down the side for a tick to be carefully and lovingly placed next to every one that comes true. Each night he's poised over that felt tip pen. Hoping against hope that he might yet get to use it.

Light those candles. Stockpile the tins of baked beans. January 31 is nigh ....

RLB will still be criticising former labour voters for voting for brexit. Thus alienating them. Not a chance with the screeching corbynite.

I'm also intrigued where you all got your crystal balls from. The EU?
