Birmingham with their players should never have been down there. Under Monk they showed improvement. Millwall overachieved for sure. But sometimes it happens. They had 3 players who got 10 each and kept their key players fit. Easily they could be near the bottom next season. See Reading as an example.

my point is that you don’t necessarily need money i have given 2 examples of that, keeping players fit is not a money issue more having rub of the green.

Even when he signed players for nothing some were so bizarre

Like I said yesterday he has had money at another championship club and it didn’t work

All said if he’s here in August it will be a clean slate and he will get my backing

I'm not sure "you don't need money" is quite true. Millwall spent a million quid and according to Iles increased their wage bill from last year whereas ours remained static.

What you need is quality and we came up with little genuine championship quality, especially going forward. We found a way to score goals thanks to Madine's improvement. Then after that we tried different ways of playing and none were entirely convincing.

We weren't very good and for me the only thing that we had above other teams was a superb spirit that kept us going. Quality wise I think we were right down near the bottom with Barnsley. Sunderland had probably better players but had far worse managers than we did, and also the fans on their back constantly.

I’d pit good money on madine starting less than 5 games in the prem and on loan in Jan.....best business out wise we’ve ever done

I don't know. The Andy Walker deal was a good one too.

We might be able to buy Madine back at a knockdown price next season.

The reality is that everyone in this league expected us to go down bottom of the league in the scenario we were in. The reality of our situation doesn't seem to have clicked with our own fans given posts like this.

Haha we got 43 points. We were lucky. We stayed up on merit but let's not confuse it as some sort of masterstroke.

I'll say it again. I like pp but it's time for a change.

If we've the money to do that then as much as Madine was good for us, I'd not be spending it on him. He'll be on a big wage now.

the enormity of how close we came to dropping is lost on you as well.

we clearly won't agree but thats the beauty of football i guess but your arguments for us being underdogs and staying up are as valid as we have been shite on far too many occasions. i didn't go to Burton (under thumb) but from what i heard we were awful, the atmosphere was toxic and Casino cracked to a similar extreme he did when we got relegated at stoke. next season we may not pull the win back with 2 minutes to go to stay up. it may just stay 2-1 and we go down. do we then keep him as we will need him for league 1?

Needing 4 points from 24 to stay up????????

ahh, thought you meant overall

its a tribute to him and the cobbled together squad we ever got to that positions, so swings and roundabouts

stayed up is what the papers say

Whilst Sunday will live in my memory forever, let us not forget the dross/awful football we have been served up for most of the season.

We tried to hard to be relegated even when we were virtually home and hosed.

In any normal year we would have gone.

He's simply got to go and with a ruthless businessman running the club he will.

we didnt. we didnt try different ways of playing at all.

yes we changed CB's, FB's, wide players but we never once changed the way we played. Which yes got us to an ok position eventually with Madines contribution. But, once he went we maintained the one and only way of playing PP knows and it very nearly became our downfall!

that isnt a criticism its a fact. He is rightly getting plaudits for what he has achieved in spite of that, in spite of the conditions he has had to work in, in spite of everything really.

However, does he have the flexibility to approach games differently? thats what is up for debate. Bringing new players in, which he has done on many occasions since he has been with us, yet still enforcing the same style of play will only get him so far and buy him a certain amount of time

you are correct. The papers will say that and I think pp stock couldn't be higher. The squad wasn't as bad as made out. I think if he stays he will get hammered by our fans next season and the pressure will be on.

Well summed up.

The freezing out of players and bringing them back randomly also rankles. Best example is little. Can anyone explain that?

You know this position we got into when you thought we were going to be comfortable ? How did we get there ?

Judge Parky over the season he has done the job asked of him. The only question is do we have different aspirations than just surviving next year ? If no we would be happy to finish with three below us, why would you sack the man who just did that.

If the club have bigger expectations they need investment and then the whole thing changes. Then it is totally upto whoever puts their money in who manages us. Personally would give Parky a go but I ain’t stumping up millions.

With no investment and looking at who is coming up and dropping down the league will be tougher so survival is the only aspiration. The idea we are going to play free flowing football in those circumstances is fanciful.

Managers make desicions and are judged by the results that come from those desicions.

Darby and Flanagan were tried ahead of Little so clearly something him Parky was not happy with. He then picked the strangest team ever at Burton.

But the objective for the club was to stay up so that has been delivered. On top of that £6-8M has been generated by selling a player. So you are looking at a massive over achievement by the club as a whole.

I see your points but I think where we differ is I fail to see the massive overachievement more that he did what was expected.

people seem happy to say we had a good enough squad to stay up but not happy when you say PP achieved what he should have achieved.

We were 4 points from safety with 8 games to go. it should have been done and dusted well before 87 minutes on Sunday.

Two out of two up up to now. 100% targets achieved.

Some on here starting to sound like Everton fans.

If Ken stays PP stays, if Prince Falla Allah Suez III takes over hes gone.

absolutely.

However, considering the hard fist PP and the team based on his instructions made of staying up and factoring in the common consensus that the league will be tougher next year, IF no investment comes its only natural people will be concerned that he wont be able to perform another miracle and are looking at people who potentially could..

but like you say, investment may change that and may take that opportunity out of PP's hands

I wanted Mick McCarthy when we appointed that duffer from Palace. Think his no nonsense, in your face style suits our profile.

.

One of the reasons that Ipswich fans wanted rid of MM is that his team were anything but "in your face" - very lack lustre and defensively minded.....which is what we currently have with PP isn't it?

I have a mate who goes and watches Ipswich (sadly not an ST) and he said that he actually felt sorry for MM, as he just seemed to be "old school" and did a lot of shouting and growling on the touchline, but the players just seemed to completely ignore him. It was, apparently, the players who eventually got him booted out. If that's true, then I'm not sure he sounds like the sort of character we want/need at this moment in time.

For what it's worth, I also wanted him in charge, at the time we appointed Freedman, but time moves on, and maybe the MM style of management is no longer relevant/practical in the top coupe of divisions.....I can see his style working in the lower leagues though, so maybe he'll rock up at Barnsley next
