Saw iron man doing the marathon bit down Chorley new road once at the tail end of the 26 miles Fair play like They weren't running, but they weren't walking I'd liken their pace to them trying to get to the crown shsrpish because they needed a shit and trying desperately to hold it in, trying to walk as fast as they could, but being unable to risk running in case they'd lose control of their arse

Maybe sans sponsor, just raising awareness, maybe a petition… when logs can’t pay grassroots because of facilities, yet pro club will pay scouts to pick up players and not reward the clubs… want to walk from Stockport County to Preston NE, taking in 7/8 clubs in between, over 100 miles, across 3 days… dunno if it’s achievable, even if I get in any sort of shape

You can walk if you need to. Some have cut off times though so that the poor bastards who marshal aren’t hanging on for hours and hours. Coincidentally I was supposed to be doing what I had planned as being one last ultra today - the Haworth Hobble. Injuries stopped play. Probably for the best. Lt. Aldo Raine
What's the average field size for these type of events? 100?
fishbulb
How long is a piece of string? Th'obble yesterday had 584 finishers. Lakeland 50 last year had 1264 finishers. So, the answer is - it depends.
Duck Egg
I did a couple of Ultras a few years back. The first one, 40 miles round Dovestones, I tagged along with a colleague who has done loads of them but is always very close to the cut off times. It was perfect preparation because without her slowing me right down, I'd have probably blown up 30 miles in and quit. We came in 3rd and 4th from last. Lights were all off and most of the stuff packed away when we crossed the finish line, which was a bit anti climactic to say the least. A few months later I did a 70 miler in the lakes and went at my own pace. She got turned back as out of time at the last checkpoint. There were 60 odd did the first one. Over 100 in the lakes. Smiley
Did the Goyt Valley Challenge last year (marathon distance). It was organised by the LDWA - Long Distance Walkers Assoc. So half the field walked, half ran. TBF, some of the really experience walkers are incredibly fast. I reckon one of them came in less than an hour behind me, having walked the full route. At one point I ran past him with about 5 miles to go (he’d started an hour before me). But then as we climbed a hill he came powering past me. Insane! Smiley
Got the Manchester Marathon in 4 weeks. My ankle is still not right. Did a few short runs last week in Dharamshala and another in Doha (ok, thought I’d drop in some places!!). Plus a couple of mountain hikes. Had a go at 8 miles this morning back home in the mud and puddles, was ok. I’m so far off the pace now though, been online to see if I can cancel or defer and I’ve missed the deadline. I’ll either do the right thing and bag it off (not that interested TBF)….. or just rock up and have a crack without much hope of finishing. Smiley
Currently eating everything that’s not nailed down in our house. Today is ground zero. Need to curb it! Probably get back on MyFitnessPal again. Definitely worked last month or so.
Not in Crawley
Lost a stone and a half, running is the thing that seems to take the weight off, but enjoying going to the gym of late. Just seems to get harder to shift the pounds as you get older.
