do the lot, no point in encouraging folk to go to Cornwall or Herefordshire for New Year

is weird though, drove through Cheadle and most things are shut, then drive through Wilmslow yesterday, and it's business as usual

It does feel weird; same with Ponynton.

Especially as their R rate is now greater than ours next door

Surely a 4 week lockdown can really squeeze this to a manageable level? But close everything - schools, businesses, the lot.

Except hospitals, pharmacies, doctors and supermarkets.

By all means have plumbers and sparkies ready for emergencies.

Beyond that, we just have to put our joggers on for 4 weeks and pretend we are evading German bombs.

it’s four fucking weeks.

After that, mass vaccinations, mass testing, mandatory masks, distancing etc for a month.

Then its March and we can start to plough on.

and if it still doesn’t work, then fuck it, we go for herd immunity and risk it.

So what do we think the criteria for T4 should / will be then?

Whole country?

Area by area?

I think they’ll do the lot

As London and the south east are in the current highest tier, it will be all of us. Unlike when the North was worse, when regional tiers are fine.

100% behind you with this plan. We’ve fucked around trying all sorts of other things for almost a year now. Full on lockdown for 4 weeks. Actually don’t leave your house unless you absolutely have to. Got to be worth a try.

Is that such a stupid idea, hundreds of highly vulnerable all under 1 roof

Part of the reason why the vaccine programmes work so well in schools is that you have them all in 1 place. When it finally comes round to doing kids I’d very much expect them to do it in schools rather than GP’s given the learnings from the childhood immunisation programme

The vaccine has to be kept in batches of 975, that is an MHRA requirement. There are then rules about how it is stored and moved round. You can not rock up at a random care home and vaccinate 37 people there and pop to the next one and so on. That is why the comparison to the yoghurt was suitable as if it was that easy do nt you think people would be doing that ? As far as I am aware all vaccinations of the Pfizer vaccine are being done at designated centres so the only way to do care homes first would be to take these vulnerable folk out of their home and transport them there and back.
Once the Oxford vaccine is available that all hopefully changes.
I repeat I share your concerns about lack of reporting but to blame everything on the Govt when we appear to be world leading is harsh. And I think the Govt are a bunch of corrupt incompetent wankers.

Still sounds like a fair question to ask though, vaccinating inside care homes was certainly discussed a few weeks back as an efficient approach

They knew all this complexity when they said they hoped to make 5m injections in December, 2 weeks in they have done 10% of that number

Feels like we are way behind

Kids at my school were having some injection the last week of term. I had a year 8 class after theyve all had the injection with some really pale looking kids.

I remember after my TB jab we used to walk around slapping each others shoulders trying to hit the sore bit!

Do you need to find a vein with this thing or is it s straight in the arm jobby like the old TB?

looking at it on TV, they're not going into a vein, just straight into the arm, like TB and Flu jabs

Anyone who thinks a 4 week full lockdown will happen is bonkers

Anyone who thinks it’s the right thing to do is also bonkers, lockdown locally if it’s overwhelming NHS, a blanket lockdown in areas that have low infection rates is utter madness. I’d restrict travel outside of the area you live but other than that tier 2 is sufficient in low infection areas.

I’m not a fan of lockdowns at all and I’ve always said that the costs of such will harm us more in the long run

the Problem is that folk are still travelling

Needs to be enforced by heavy police presence on routes around tier 4 areas, the message would soon hit home.

Saw them giving Joe Biden the vaccine and it was just straight in the upper arm muscle - bosh all done in 3 secs, looking at him though he can’t possibly have any veins, he’s just kept alive by batteries.

Indeed, we're not allowed to travel or have anybody round over the festive period now that we're in tier 4........the house down the street had two cars (4 adults and 1 kid) arrive last night with what I'm assuming are family, as they spent about 20 minutes unloading dozens of bags in the pissing down rain, before driving one of the cars a bit further up the road, so it isn't parked outside the house that they're staying in - so clearly they're not paying attention to the rules, and sadly, I'm sure they won't be the only people in the UK doing so.

So you think the Met Police have the resources to throw up roadblocks on thousands of miles of roads around london? Whilst also dealing with crime?

It is currently impossible to enforce a travel ban and you’re bonkers if you think it is.

Burnley have 12 police covering nighshifts - mate of mine is one of them.

I don’t like it either, but this will go on for another year if something dramatic isn’t done.

My mrs Grandad got a letter on Monday telling him he had a vaccine appointment... The previous Friday.

I've seen that the NHS volunteer service thing from the first lockdown are recruiting for stewards to help man vaccination sites and st johns vaccinators. I'd imagine this is gearing up for the oxford vaccine for if and when it gets approved (keeping fingers crossed).

I think they're at train stations, but I doubt they'll be on the roads - I agree they should be. Anybody found to be travelling out of a T4 area without a good reason, then they should be banged up for the next 7 days, straight to jail, no questions asked, if that turns out not to be practical, then an on the spot £5000 fine.

Someone the MIL knows went to Harrogate (tier2) from Bradford (tier3) on the bus. Police waiting at bus station sending people straight back home. But not issuing fines.

Thing is if london and the south east is so rife right now then let it spread there let them get some sort of herd immunity and then let them crack on. Open it up let them keep the economy going and then lock the rest of England down hard. Like properly hard. The virus will die out and the economy will be propped up by the tax revenues down there. Put some sort of blockade around London so that nobody from outside can get in so that they can all get to work without anyone from outside bringing in infection.  Almost like a hard border. Test folk trying to get in if positive you can’t get In. Simple

Then unlock the rest of the country once it’s under control. and we carry on. If we get sporadic outbreaks lock down the rest of the country again. By having the south east out of the game it’s just damaging the uk economy too much.
