What I've been told is that the test isn't straightforward and needs to be done by hand - and we just don't have enough lab technicians and lab space to process a huge amount of tests. Even though they are working really hard. We're set up to process usual fluctuations - but nothing on this scale. I think the hope is that a newer, simpler test will be developed that gives a quicker result. Until then - I'm not sure how it's possible to dramatically ramp up testing? So why would Hancock and Johnson be bullshitting about 100k a day 7/10? Nah, maybe 5 Its a massive job and I honestly don't think they are up to it, not that I blame them entirely Theres some senior civil servants who I'd not pay in washers Quote

Casino Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 All I hear is that the labs are way behind lesting It just feels like it's sort one thing at a time When it needed all sorts going on at once Quote

Looking at what symptoms he had and how he died of a pneumonia type illness I’m pretty sure that was what did for him how many more have died earlier this year of pneumonia which was actually Covid? Sorry to hear about your dad. As for the pneumonia thing - and I hope you don't mind me responding to your point here - but about a month ago I heard from a coroner that they'd been told that unless a CV test was done they had to put deaths down as pneumonia. Technically that was the immediate cause he said. Presume your dad wasn't tested for CV? Quote

He was ill for a week struggling with his breathing etc burning up and thought he had flu. Then rushed into hospital and then latterly into intensive care undergoing I think same treatment as boris but he never came out sadly. he had various underlying health conditions including myeloid leukemia so he was a sitting duck Quote
MancWanderer Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 I so wish that folk would stop banging on about testing and vaccines. We are so far away from them. Until proper due diligence is done neither is reality. There is no quick fix for either. Its really fucking simple. Leave the science bods to it. Stop arguing about it and simply focus on telling the mouth breathers that walk amongst us to stop spreading it Quote

There are 200 countries in the world and if the government are right that deaths here will continue to be high for another three/four weeks, it'll be us and the USA alone as the worst affected. That wasn't the inevitable outcome of a virus which started 5,000 miles away. I just find the general attitude at the minute to be a bit bizarre. I get the government line is to keep speaking positively so people don't lose faith in the lockdown, but that's no reason for everyone else to follow suit. 'We are where we are' has become this years 'He's a cunt but he's our cunt'. Quote

birch-chorley Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 Saw something on sky news about some mega testing places opening, one in Cheshire or something Not sure what sort of capacity it will add but it can only be good news People need to know if you have had it, not just if they have it, then it’s a case of getting back out there into the economy and get the wheels turning again Quote
Rudy Posted April 11, 2020 Author Posted April 11, 2020 New York alone now accounts for 5% of the worldwide cases Quote

What's with the "genius" bit as well? I've heard him use that word a lot in the last couple of weeks, but it's a virus, Trump, it's doing what viruses do. Fucking genius?! Quote

He’ll get 4 more years and that says more about America than it does Trump. Quote

He even treated North Korea like a business problem and went to meet their boss to try and hammer out a deal. One that made him look ridiculous mind, but still. I'm not sure you can apply it to a pandemic. Logistics and supplies yes but it's a humanitarian issue too and I don't think he's got it in him. Just keeping on saying we're winning, tweeting "we've got the invisible enemy in retreat!" and saying genius a lot doesn't cover for mass graves. Quote

I can’t really criticise for his response it’s more his approach to things whilst this is going on? Could you imagine Obama coming out with the stuff Trump does? He’s obviously not a medical man but he has medical brains working for him. Get them to write an update, and read it out, don’t take questions only let the scientists and doctors answer the questions. Quote
