Not blaming them, I know they are under loads of pressure from the media & public, but they need to prepare everyone for a few leaps in the figures. L/H White Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 3 week lockdown extension to be announced tomorrow? Quote

If we can get to May and the numbers are dropping every day (with testing increasing) I think that will be decent. 7/10 etc.. Most people have done 4 weeks, I think we can all suffer 3 more and then start to venture out carefully again. Quote

What we are saying is we are locked down and they will review every 3 weeks slightly different than saying we are locked down until x day It feels like a strategy recommended by the behavioural science unit. Give people a date to look towards, which will help cement support for the measures but don't commit to it in case the situation at the point doesn't allow the lockdown to be lifted. Quote

Put it another way, four strangers have got into your home. You've called the bobbies before they've attacked you. They turn up and knock on the door, and you don't answer. So they just fuck off because they can't see you bleeding out on your kitchen floor, with a 9 inch kitchen knife stuck squarely into your liver. It’s hard work because you are entrenched in your opinion. Instead of inventing imaginary scenarios, stick to the video. There was no gathering. It can’t be made any simpler than that. Have you read the act and seen where it gives them a power of entry? The only bit I can see is where they are supporting health professionals. Quote

Spider, they've mentioned and explained this 2 or 3 times on the daily briefing that they do about 5pm. Its been one of the science bods that have stated that the ONS is a few days/weeks behind the daily figures that are announced. Quote

It's a funny world we live in today and nothing surprises me. Shanghai was definitely in lockdown and had the Virus. We fly daily Cargo flights there and even they got stopped for a few weeks. When we restarted we had to fly via Seoul-Incheon in Korea and make a Crew change so that the Crew that went in to Shanghai could stay in the Cockpit and then fly direct back to Germany. No person in Shanghai had access to the Cockpit. Whole area outside the Cockpit before the Cargo compartment (Supernumerary area) fully disinfected prior to departure, and again on arrival back here before we could go anywhere near the inside of the Aircraft. Similar but not quite as extreme with the Hong Kong flights. Things are back to normal with regards the Shanghai flights now although still disinfected on arrival, and new flights now also from Shenzhen. At this time I would say that there has been a big switch in flights. The likes of Dubai, and Bangalore in India have been scaled back to pave the way for more flights from China. Passenger Aircraft are also performing Cargo only flights from China, full of medical supplies like Masks and Gowns. I read a lot of stories about profiteering by Chinese companies at the moment. My info from the Company I work for is that it’s false info and that most of this stuff is being donated by China. Quote
Good Knee Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 I will apologise now if this as been covered but can anyone tell me in simple layman's terms and without a graph just how many more people are dying per day than normally die each day .Am I right in thinking the daily average is 1400, I appreciate the seasonal discrepancy but how many more are curling their toes up now than normal?? Thanks Quote

We had around 4000 face masks (single use) once sent to us free of charge by our suppliers - we've obviously given these to local care homes and surgeries etc. As for flights, I'm currently involved in getting some stuff together for ventilators - product that usually takes around 16 weeks to manufacture, we're getting down in around 10 days, it's amazing. The first lot of products, just 480pcs, was shipped from Shenzhen to Shanghai yesterday, and today will be getting on a commercial/passenger flight, run by BA to Heathrow, either this evening or tomorrow morning. It's costing around 10 times the usual freight cost, but it's the only way we can guarantee an exact delivery date Quote

Thanks I'm not sure you can do it without a graph, but this was an interesting article on it https://medium.com/wintoncentre/how-much-normal-risk-does-covid-represent-4539118e1196 my attempt at laymans terms as I understand it: - 600,000 people die a year in the UK (a daily average of 1643) - if we'd done absolutely nothing, 80% of the population would have got infected, and 510,000 would die so could've meant a years worth of risk in two weeks or something so instead it's all spread out, and we could then limit it to 20,000 so the daily average would be 1,698 however we have 900+ deaths a day so the average thing doesn't really work edit: just seen sweeps post, probably a better answer, but still requires a graph Edited April 14, 2020 by ZicoKelly Quote
