But if you're coming out with 50k worth of debt you can expect a bit more than a bed, a desk and a sink. Slight side note.. Your student loan amount really affects your mortgage borrowing ability.. They failed to mention that to 17 year old me.. Quote

Casino Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Maybe it depends where you live or where you went to uni but daughterbear owed about 30k She doesnt notice the repayments, theyre that small And low earners pay nothing Quote
Carlos Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 There’s a massive “wash your hands” sign up in Top o’th Brow. That’ll work. Had to actually stop at the pedestrian crossing yesterday, obviously no one was actually crossing, hoards of kids climbing the fucker. I’d put a wall up to stop them coming in to Harwood if I could. ErnestTurnip Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Think it came to 17k student loan for this year and it's a 4 year course, one year should be abroad and that will work out much cheaper/free depending on how you choose to do it. Looking at over 50k by the time it's done. Loans didn't exist when I went so I came out with money in the bank after working the holidays. That's progress for you I suppose. Quote

Yeah I had 10k plus an overdraft. Lucky when I look at some of the debt. But as casino says the repayments are small at the lower end and if you’re earning more the you pay but can afford more Quote

Not in Crawley Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Most of the 25 year old who I work with just have no hope of paying it off. I have to day when it comes to my kids time for uni, we'll have a long look at what is best and might be staying closer to home, or depending on what they want to do into work alongside further studies. All these stories are giving me flashbacks to my time working for Bolton @ Home in that neck of the woods. Regularly came in in the morning with the portaloo ridden down the hill at Padbury and cones/signs etc nicked, in trees or just smashed up. Kids out and about during the school day often acompanied by adults supping cans of stella at 9am. Worked in some rough areas of town but that section of breightmet has to be bar far the ropiest. Problem is, the part of his loan which would’ve been earmarked for housing meant he had more cash than many others. He certainly didn’t offer to give me any back. He’s now paying it off but I’m getting it in dries and drabs. 15 minutes ago, Casino said: shes played a blinder so far, picked a course and uni that pretty much guaranteed a job, earns decent without being massive but loves what shes doing lad did 2 weeks and came home Same as my youngest. Five weeks at Hallam was enough for her. She still ended up with the debt though as her tuition fees and accommodation fees all needed paying. And, because she didn’t finish the course, there was no “pay it when you earn over £30k” She immediately went back to her job at McDonalds and has risen up to first assistant manager. Next step is running her own restaurant which isn’t bad at 23 year old. Quote
only1swanny Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Degree, PGCE, Masters (currently) and then I'm going on to do my PhD.. It's going to be eye watering money.. Rough calculation, reckon i'm at about 20k atm paid a fair bit off. In Bolton earlier, they're doing news reports on Victoria Square and handing out test kits to everyone walking past Quote

frank_spencer Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Being a professional mac-head isn't a bad career in itself but will give her massive kudos going on to anywhere afterwards. Its a hard graft at maccies so being able to work your way up and handle it puts her ahead if many fresh out of uni. Quote
jmjhb Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 Nearly 3000 new cases today On the flip side, only 2 deaths reported Quote
Spider Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 So the advice in Bolton is not to get on a bus or train? That’ll slow it down right enough. Quote

Did the early part of this pandemic simply find all those already to weak to fight it off though? Or maybe the way they counted the deaths was flawed. Quote
jmjhb Posted September 6, 2020 Posted September 6, 2020 How come daily cases went down from May to July then? Quote
