Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted November 15, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 15, 2020 His mum died the day he won the FA Cup with Liverpool. Useless bit of trivia. Cracking keeper though. Him or Shilton would have had best part of 200 England caps without the other
paulhanley
Class keeper in that supreme Liverpool side in the 70s and early 80s. Ron Greenwood couldn't decide whether he or Shilton was the best - so he played the in alternate games for England. We've got some decent keepers now ... but Clemence would be our No 1 if he was 25 right now. RIP
Mounts Kipper
RIP. Always a steady keeper one who was unbelievably consistent at a high level.
miamiwhite
Didn't Shilton and Clemence both cock up at Hampden in the home internationals ? Very soft goals IIRC

Johnnyrotten
What a keeper, loved watching him. But what a great bloke and ambassador for the game. Gone too soon.
leigh white
Liverpool made some shrewd moves getting Clemence & Keegan from Scunthorpe.

After Bothams appearance for the reserves at Burnden, the question I had for folk for a while was to name the last player to play at Burnden Park whilst he was captain of England. Site Supporter MickyD Posted November 16, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 16, 2020 Who played in goal for Liverpool for Peter Thompson’s testimonial? Was it that game that both first-half keepers played second half as outfield players? (And 12 a-side)
Site Supporter MickyD Posted November 16, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted November 16, 2020 It didn’t answer my question but can you imagine a 20.5k crowd for a testimonial these days? https://www.lfchistory.net/SeasonArchive/FriendlyGame/8084
