The Truss thing is all very strange.

Other figures also said the economy grew at its fastest whilst she was the pm.

Fuck knows what the reality of her time will eventually prove to be; there were always going to be interest rate rises- should have happened before but the BoE stalled- but her policy certainly spooked the markets and catalysed the whole thing.

Which illustrates the point above. Playing tit for tat over which party said/did this, that or t'other is a pointless exercise, as they all say untruths about each other. It's par for the course.

Once in opposition, the government and its party are fair game.

Once in government, they then have to deal with reality.

Round and round it goes.

Whilst that was just words

tory chancellors took actions.

The Resolution Foundation calculates that the mini-budget cost the UK Treasury £30bn, the Truss government caused roughly that amount of the fiscal hole which the Treasury claims is £60bn.

That was the point of my reply to TMGJ. Politicians just lie.

She could of course just made a mistake. Not a good look for an ‘economist’ though.
Liz Truss got kicked out by the way and rightly so.

Liz Truss cost me £340 a month thanks to her kamikaze budget. Not £200 a year some of the over 65's seem so upset about, £4k a year gone up in flames because my remortgage was pulled before completing. Stupid Tufton St shill.

Because it wasn’t tax payers money and they only bought  £19 billion worth.  The BOE actually made a profit of £3.5 billion on the sale of the bonds.

But the effect on the immediate economy and people's mortgages was absolute FACT.

To be fair you are seeing something that isn't there. There was relief and a hope for a change from the chaos previous. Things have been far from great but we are coming from a very very low bar. I think their Comms have been dreadful, especially at first and Reeves & Starmer have been more than a little naive.

But they are getting on with the boring stuff that will in the long term give results but doesn't make headlines like 40 new hospitals etc (although in this age they also give out this big bollocks, like their unachievable housing targets).

You must be looking at different economic indicators than me. True her budget wasn’t as much of a car crash as Truss’s but the effect is much more slow burning. She’s lost the £10 billion fiscal headroom in less than 6 months. Borrowing and it’s costs are through the roof and business confidence is at is lowest for years. The NI effect will kick in next month with thousands of job losses and GDP is stagnating. I’ll refer you to the FT comment I posted yesterday. ‘Worsening economic outlook’ Austerity is back and it’s going to be painful.

I see it but £30b and £10b in 6 months isn't remotely comparable. It is a however not good news. But, the former is also responsible for everything since and is why Rishi also found it hard to shake off and resolve, there was no headroom for anything anymore.

You’ll have to explain the £30 billion figure. Are we comparing apples and pears?

Talking about lies - that is utter bollocks propagated by the Mail. The woman was complained about by a member of the public to the police because of something offensive she wrote. Because of the complaint the police have to let the person know that they have received this and are legally obliged to look into it. That's what they are doing here, letting the accused know that they have to investigate.

All perfectly normal and legal procedure, despite what the Mail has twisted it into.

On the plus side, like Bolty, at least it'll make you very, very happy if we spiral into grimness at the hands of Labour, just so you can say "I told you so"

What conditions has he placed on Russia who is still bombing the shite out of Ukraine? None.

What a cunt.

All because VZ wasn't as nice and willing to suck cock to Trump as he'd have liked him to be. Absolutely insane
