If we stick to our present trajectory we will sit here complaining about the constantly rising gas and leccy bills and failing Health and Social care while sending at least 5% of our annual GDP wealth to fund an eastern european war.

I linked an article yesterday: Ukraine does have a fair amount of some metals, but not necessarily the ones Trump kept referring to.

In addition, those it does have are typically exported in relatively small quantities.

In order to exploit them, a vast amount of investment would be required, meaning the value in the minerals is reduced, at least for a while.

We only managed to finally pay off the Marshall Plan in 2006... why shouldn't Ukraine pay the USA (& Canada) as we did?

That's ukraine, russia is a different ball game. Biggest titanium producer in the world (okay behind china) but chinese titanium isn't qualified for aero applications currently. Non-russian titanium producers are struggling to produce the same quality material as they can at VSMPO in russia.. Boeing are down as it is and really could do with the russian supply chain being back online. A major motivation for Trump I think
