What would be your desired expiry time of a test ? 3 days ? 2 hours ? If I have a negative test on Sunday, how long would that negative result allow me freedom ? The perfect situation would be a 10 second test, with immediate results, thats 100% accurate. This could be done upon entry to wherever. Until we have that, we have imperfect options. Agree the tests are shit too. PCR authorization getting pulled by the yanks at the end of the year because it's toss. https://www.cdc.gov/csels/dls/locs/2021/07-21-2021-lab-alert-Changes_CDC_RT-PCR_SARS-CoV-2_Testing_1.html So you've got shit tests or vaccine status that doesn't prevent transmission being used to curb access to every day life. Makes zero sense. I'm anti covid passport at a domestic level. Couldn't give a fuck how it'd treated whether you have had the vaccine or not etc. Certainly not putting signs up and heckling passers by on the beehive roundabout. Live and let live. But don't bring in a vaccine passport based on flawed science. Quote

With proof of a negative test result no longer acceptable. It defies logic. You can't argue with that. I think the issue is having folk doing the tests at a suitable time close to entry. And their accuracy, especially with lfd. Ziggy has covered this. Compare that to vaccine status which is a definite (either had them or not). OK, transmission is possible, but chances of serious illness happening are much lower, so it's then becomes a balance between having something akin to normal life but having the risk of being rough, as opposed to a much higher risk of catching it and croaking. Pros and cons, but for me, it's is logical to use the vaccinated route, unless a faster, accurate and cheaper testing method is developed for use 'at the door'. Quote

You don't even have to take the test. That's where that approach fails. Quote

No doubt someone will be managing to fake a page from the nhs app that shows your vaccine status, but that takes more effort I'd guess. Quote

Not in Crawley Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 So the mayor is telling us in London to get back to work in offices, full campaign - new branding on the tube, stuff like 'after work drinks' in the roundel. Sorry but fuck the butty and coffee shops. I've had enough of spending too much on lunch and commuting. Quote

If I had my way every overpriced coffee and sandwich shop that has leached off workers being forced to be in offices for no reason for the full 5 days a week would go to the wall. Getting up at 6, getting home at 8.30... More local business rather than mon-fri Prets, Leon's (4 quid for a pot of beans!?!) Overpriced shitty too bitter coffees with stupid names. Had my fill of them all. I'll shed no tears whatsoever. Quote

Not missing spunking £20 getting to Manchester on Northern rail and eating breakfast and dinner and coming home. Unfortunately the Mrs is no longer working Fridays and is spending the savings and more on middlebrook! Quote

Not in Crawley Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 One of the things that cheered me up through all this was the ceo of Pret moaning and complaing about people not in offices. Another upside is inner city landlords charging whatever they want for office space finally getting fucked over. About time. Quote

Sure many places will get back up to good occupancy but not like before, maybe 80% but loads are looking at their rental costs and thinking fuck that, we can make do with half that. Quote

We're going back 3 days in out of 5 and at front line staff we're seeing massive attrition because people want to wfh. They can get similar jobs on similar pay elsewhere that have better wfh / flexibility. Quote

Massive infrastructure projects taking place right now of backhaul transmission that was already in place for 4G/5G/cable but has been given a huge wake up call with diverse working we all expect now. My old company has stupid rents (kings Cross granary square) it meant our agency had to double the work just for the office space. They are forcing folk back, one of my mates who is still there says it's like a primary school as only the youngsters want to do it and are left (he's only 43 himself) It's busier in London but mon/fris very quiet still. My new place is oddly still in granary Square but being an old charity sold their old offices for a few million and bought this place outright, so offer lower rents to art business to share some of the space. We're doing hybrid, set amount of days over 2 weeks - basically three days a week or 5 one, 2 the next, but can be flexible to avoid rush hours etc No one really wants to rush back. I'm there until Jan and then finding a new thing, god knows what that'll be but home working is a must. Quote
