Traf Posted September 21, 2021 Posted September 21, 2021 Some proper fake food snobbery going on here. Ooooh, I'd never eat that... I bet most of us have eaten everything on this thread. I know I have, but that's possibly because I was dragged up on a Farnworth council estate where you ate what you were given or you didn't eat. Quote

Youri McAnespie Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 That's like saying pasta is a horrible thing, or rice... They're just bland, a carrier... What's horrible is how they're served. No-one would open a can or steep/boil dry beans like; cannellini, kidney, black-eyed, rossecco even haricot (baked beans beans) and just plonk them unadorned on a plate as a side... They did this (with butter beans) at school and they are indeed crap served this way. Stick a can alongside your kidney beans in your next chilli con carne. Justice for the butterbean. Retrial. Youri McAnespie Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 (edited) That said, I'm not exactly over-enamoured by salads with cold beans of any type, your Tuna Fagioli or Nicoìse Salads etc. I've a mate who'll cook a nice curry and pilau then insist on opening a can of 'mixed bean salad' and plonking a ladle of it, cold, as a 'side' on each plate, it ruins everything. Whitestar Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 A lot of things you try as a youngster are instantly horrible but give it ten minutes and you think, giv us anotha go a that, eg: lime pickle. First time i tried lime pickle i thought it was the worst thing I'd ever tasted except 1 (but we'll come to that) 10 mins later you try it again, still disgusting but by now addictive. One time on an all inclusive hol, been drinking all day and night and bored of the same stuff, i join the queue at the bar and think right, whatever this geezer in front of me gets I'm getting the same. Turns out he's German and ordered a couple of neat hazelnut schnapps, well tasted like fookin wood shavings but again strangely addictive, drank them the rest of the holiday. Ok. Back to the previous mention of the one thing i tried and tried and better tried to eat but always had to spit out after about 20 seconds Victory Vs!!!!! WTF??? And some kids at my school actually liked them. Quote
e2e4 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 its weird, but victory vs are like a halls mentholiptus. its not really a toffee. the spanish in a bertie bassett bag is a toffee. Quote

Whitestar Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Working down south with a lad one time, he says I'm off to a sweet shop (he meant toffee shop) do you want anything? I said naah, aye go on, get us a spanish!.  Nope, Clueless as to what i wanted.🤦🤷 Quote
