England games

I don't get the concept of "virtue signalling" - it's a stupid concept as it's predicated on the definition of what is virtuous - and that all comes down to personal perception.

For example, if Brexiteers argue that leaving the EU is for the express reason of improving the lot of the British people, do they consider (rightly or wrongly) that improving the lot of British people is a virtue? If so, is promising to stop immigration "virtue signalling"?

Or supplying arms to Ukraine?

Or skewing the economy to favour corporate business over individuals?

Surely every political standpoint or policy is promoted on the basis of it being "the right thing  to do" i.e. is virtuous.

The reality is that no political party, movement, religion or perspective  is ever promoted on the basis of non-virtuous underlying motives such as greed, power, self-interest or the need to be proven right - and the reality of accusing others of "virtue signalling" is little more than a thinly veiled attempt to avoid discussing or simply discounting the opinions of others?

If folk don't like something they should have the balls to say it and explain why rather than trot out propaganda slogans designed to avoid having to justify their own position. It's weak and lazy.

Surely if Southgate was a virtue signaler sinister woke slag he wouldn't have picked Henderson as he plies his trade in Saudi?

Tbf to GS is comments backing Hendo and mentioning the governments dealings with Saudi etc was pretty brave and he spoke brilliantly.

Anything but woke or pandering to causes.

Told it how it is.

I agree, and in some quarters he will no doubt get pelters for not refusing to pick him.

Therein is the impossible position he, and Kane (who got stick for playing in the wc) will get for embroiling themselves in issues that are "no win" situations.

Always folk pressurising them then willing to turn on them.

I stopped there as this has been plain to see by anyone with even a modicum of grey matter.

Interwoven with political correctness it is/has been the scourge of our times. Both products of US faux socialism, we have allowed this shit to become 'mainstream' to the detriment of one of the cornerstones of true democracy - free speech.

Having said all of that, when I turn through 180 this evening when I know the first ball will be kicked, I am hoping for a comfortable victory with Bellingham providing something similar to this:

I can see us getting beat tonight and the knives will be out tomorrow big style :(

They definitely have a lot of momentum behind them at the moment. This should be treated as if its an extra qualifying group game really, its going to be a battle.

It is a bit of a catch all. Exactly the same as using "Gammon".

Agreed. Two sides of this relentlessly boring culture war that if it hasn't ruined society as a whole, has definitely not done this place any favours at the very least.

Nah. We'll put em back in their box and remind them what a good international side looks like. 3-0 England

TBF, I think you are likely correct here. Euro finalists, World Cup semi-finalists in recent times against Faroe Island conquerors.

If it goes the wrong way of course there is the bonus of seeing the bearded schnozz squirm.
