Is this referencing the article in the BN today? If so, that's not what he said at all!

"... we always have open, honest dialogue... we are on the same page that we are trying to get better...I have been part of this game all my life and understand we need results..."

If you have seen something else please post it as I can't see anywhere that he has the full backing or that he has said that.

On wanderersnewsnow Evatt states board back me but we need better results !

I think that's the headline from the same article, which is a little misleading

Listened to one of Sam's Podcast episodes recently. He sounded like he wasn't far off having a carer.

Sam could be 5 years into dementia and he still wouldn't lose 5-0 at Stockport

Lucky fucker to meet a team even worse than us right now. Not sure he could have done much more to try and lose but results are results so the life support won't be turned off quite yet sadly.

Really glad we won but didn’t enjoy that at all.

Apart from the disallowed goal Charles was awful and so was McAtee.

Collins should have had a hatrick - but great finish.

We need to step up on Tuesday

To be fair Charles needs the ball playing through the channels for him to run onto and he will score . he was working of scraps I thought he did alright worked hard got a few shots off and was a nuisance for them with little service

macatee we altered the formation to accommodate him seems a waste

The balance would have been so much better with GT, Sheehan and Matete in the 3 and then Collins and Charles as out and out forwards. Hopefully they’re all now fit we might actually move back to it because otherwise we’re going to have to rectify a lot more shit situations like we did today.

Said that the other day, as soon as I saw that set up I knew we'd make heavy weather of it, however limited they were. I can't fathom how Evatt can't or isn't prepared to see that a double screen of Tomo and Matete would free Sheehan to do his work further forward, in areas of greater danger to them and less risk to us. He has more support and freedom for Wales and looks a better player for it.

The only time that two in midfield works is late in games, when their presser detailed to clatter Sheehan tires and drops off a bit.

Front three in today's set up doesn't work and hasn't previously. Wasn't helped by Collins and McAtee being horrific in first half, the two very worst of a bad bunch. McAtee did little better after the break, Collins, second half, at least (as he often does later in games) got into the positions to score. His miss was a shocker but as they tired late on could see why he was left out there till the end

That first half showed that, whatever was said after Stockport, that Evatt has little influence over the individual and collective mentality once the whistle blows at kick off. It was as limp, pathetic and spineless a half as any of late, and there's been a fair few to pick from

GT and Sheehan have to start

Would much rather play Dempsey or even Matete before McAtee

Would much rather start Charles and Collins as the main two up top than any other combo

But would also like one or both to be on the pitch for more than 60 mins if we're in need of a goal

I’d agree with you, as would most I suspect. Shame the guy who’s paid to make the calls can’t see it (or won’t do it) and persists with 2 in midfield.

I think once Dempsey is back he may revert

Same issues are still there, he is trying to work out what happened in the playoff final. He doesn't know how to fix it and keeps messing with formations and players. One thing he just can't let go is 2 in midfield.

I'd be made up if we can go up this season, but I don't see it with Evatt. Luckily, no one in this division is pulling up trees.

I’m not putting this in the Blackpool thread, because it’s more about the formation specifically and I don’t want it taken in the context of “FFS just enjoy the win”.

The “3 up top” just doesn’t work like that with this system. The first half proved its fundamental flaw - the midfield is outnumbered, because Collins and McAtee aren’t midfielders and so don’t really know how to help out, but we’re also short up top because neither of them were far enough forward to support Charles. It’s the worst of both worlds. The ball bypasses them and they’re just passengers.

2nd half he changed it to be fair to him and moved Collins up front with Charles, which was much more effective, and dropping McAtee into the 10 (I don’t think it’s his preferred position - either that or it’s just not clicking for him yet).

The thing I can’t believe that he doesn’t see is that we can all see it. This box midfield shite is exactly that. We’re weaker in midfield and up top for it and just lose any sense of idea or formation - it turns to long ball, to fucking Charles.

The balance would have been so much better with GT, Sheehan and Matete in the 3 and then Collins and Charles as out and out forwards. Hopefully they’re all now fit we might actually move back to it because otherwise we’re going to have to rectify a lot more shit situations like we did today.

Completely agree. Will be interesting to see how Man U line up today as 523/343 is apparently their new manager's preferred system, and similar to us I don't think they have the personnel for it.

I can only remember 1 team in premier league history playing this formation successfully - Chelsea under Conte. But they had 2 bruisers in midfield in Kante and Matic and a defender in David Luiz who constantly stepped into midfield to make it a 3 when needed.

100% he should. Dempsey, GT and Sheehan in midfield will be as good as any in the league and offers decent balance.

We won yesterday due to his in game management.

Appreciate the reply Gonzo. He did set up the team in the first half and then realised it wasn't working. It isn't as though they came out in the second half and all changed, he made two more formation changes and it came off.  Point is, we can't keep having this one half shit one half good scenario, and then praising him when it comes off.

He has built this team we have, and it still has issues all over the pitch, When it comes off, it's all good, when it doesn't it shows up repeatedly where this issues are, and they aren't going to go away any time soon

Hes only got 3 fit midfielders, forced him to start with 2 because Thomasson wasn’t lasting full game…. Isn’t that obvious?

We just about won yesterday due to his overall game management.

We hit the bar and had a perfectly good goal disallowed. Another day we win 3 or 4.

His changes made the difference. Put Collins further forward and changed the midfield shape. It worked and we had the whole second half.

He plays 2 in midfield (most of the time) when they are all fit
