batton carrier Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 They are all cunts. They hate us ,all of them from the tea lady to the chairman and I include rubber undies in that group. It is an obsession, they are fucking weird. If you live or work amongst them you will know. For to long for us this fixture has been treated like any other it isn't and we need to be as up for it as they are . They are a skidmark of a club with the most deluded set of fans in the whole football league . Fuck the tics Quote

mattbwfc19 Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 would love to beat these, any win will do. will be a bumper crowd 1-0 Quote
Wanderlust Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 WIgan have got some decent players and it's shown in their results until yesterday where they snatched a draw from a winning position so like many others I reckon it will be a tough test on Saturday. However this time around their fans are not as confident and most feel it will be their biggest test too.. Quote I'm dreading it. They really are the best team in the League now and will probably end up winning it. They remind me of us two years ago. Depth in every position, plenty of experience and physicality. Dion Charles suspended? No bother, they'll bring in Nlundlu (scored against us), Bodvarsson (scored against us and changed the game at the DW) or good old Cameron Jerome. They still have plenty of players who remember two years ago and will want to absolutely pan us. Quote Bolton are pretty much 3 years into a similar process that Maloney has just started, so they should be better than us on paper as they are the finished product while we are just getting started. Last time we faced it was a clash of styles and our success came from being able to drag them into our game. This time we are going to be trying to play them at their own game so it's going to be a real acid test of how good we are and how close we are to competing with the better sides. If we struggle it's somewhat expected but if we can do well then it'll be a sign of rapid progress. Quote If we're to have any chance, we need to do two things. Firstly, don't concede early on. Secondly, remained disciplined and don't give the ref any reason to make a decision. It's a huge test for our defence and central midfield and I'm sure Bolton will look to bully us in the middle of the park. Looks like there will be a few nervous fans on both sides - which underlines the importance of winning a derby match. For me, any win will do no matter how we get it, but it would be nice if we can get there by playing the great football we're capable of. Quote
L/H White Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 horrible feeling can't wait for it to be over hate this fixture scruffy twats Quote

paulhanley Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 When we play Blackburn, Burnley and Preston I look forward to it as a slugfest Lancashire derby against teams in the same ballpark as us in terms of club size (obviously I think we are bigger than them but then I am biased!) When we play these, Blackpool and (in days gone by) Bury they play against us as if their whole season depends on the outcome. It brings a whole different feel. In the past our failing has been that we've only been up for it as much as we'd be on a standard Saturday. I'd be amazed if it's like that on Saturday. They're not as weakened as we might have hoped but they are certainly beatable and a 1230 kick off after traipsing all the way back from Carlisle last night with little squad rotation over their four games thus far won't help. I won't make a prediction. I'll just hope we can nail them and then plough happily in to the next few fixtures and promotion optimism. Quote
Lt. Aldo Raine Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 I've got a feeling we won't win But I'd rather be happy than right Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Fascinated to see what the approach will be without Charles. He's the first line of defence with his harrasing of defenders. Part of the pressing regime. Wonder if he might go with Vic on his own, and another attacking midfielder behind. Did it with shoretire last season, so it's not unheard of. Got a good selection of midfielders and could even replace one with another and get them to really run hard and do the pressing quickly and persistently. Quote

Spider Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Any kind of win. A shithousing 1-0 victory with a 99th minute penalty, or a 6-0 humiliation. Not bothered, just a fucking win please Quote

Mantra Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 (edited) It's a cliché but form goes out the window in these sorts of games. Dreading it but that's what makes the spoils even sweeter if we win. Like it or not, to me, Wigan feel like the Spurs to our Arsenal. I know for some they are too 'tinpot' to be classed as that but the rivalry between fans has grown massively over the last 10 years. The Uwe Rossler comment I think really sparked it, and then the following administrations of both clubs and reaction to that from both sets of fans days inflamed it further. Surely can't be worse than the last time we played them at home but given how we've started and our aspirations for the season, a loss would feel particularly gutting. A draw I can live with. But I wouldn't take a point now if you offered it to me. Edited August 16, 2023 by Mantra Quote

There’s games when you just need the 3 points, even if it’s an own goal off the keeper’s arse. With Charles and Evatt missing, this is most definitely the latter. Let us know next time we have one of the former games 😀. I’m going with all 46 games being in the 2nd bracket. Quote

Dunno enough about Wigan's set up, but basing it on last night's change of midfield, I'm not sure he'd put both Sheehan and Morley back into a 3 against what appears a strong side. If he wants them both back in, then maybe another body alongside? Big Dan still a strong possibility though- which I reckon would see at least two "battling" midfielders in there- like last night.
