We currently have the elite in our team. Absolute top line, cant get any higher elite.

Treble winners, Real Madrid and future ballon dor winners.

Gazza was ace as he stood out in a completely shit generation on the back of a club ban in Europe.

Hes an icon, a cult figure, tortured genius. But never in a million years the level we have now in Foden and Bellingham.

Every player who's played with Foden and every manager says hes the most talented on the ball kid theyve ever seen.

You cant have a career on what ifs. You've got to do it to be the best.

Spot on this father

Absolute Myth. 😂 Why they used to make all them made up statements from Works greats saying Scholes was the best. Crap for England as well. Not even close

Up there with blokes that used to fancy Philipa Forrester ‘as thinking man’s totty’ haha

You need to get over it pal😀

Completely shit generation? Robson when injury free, Beardsley, John Barnes, Waddle, Lineker..... and the best of the lot... Glenn Hoddle ( light years ahead of Maddison and his like), unfortunately it was a time when it was 442 & square pegs in round holes & elite talents weren't trusted..... We've seen with the new generation how they can be hampered by poor management.

I never quite 'got' Gazzer. Obviously very capable, but not so much dim as psychologically disturbed. Reading & hearing of him he sounds a sweet kid, seeking acceptance and very funny in a rather annoying way.

Easily led & a bit needy.

A lost talent really, because he could have been one of the greats but his temperament meant he never quite made it.

Good enough to be wanted by Lazio. The most prestigious league in Europe at that time.

By using your argument, if that's what we call it, you're going down the road of saying that Pele, Maradona, Puskas & Finney were rubbish if you put them up against today's top talent.

Absolute horseshit.

His performances in the run to the final were top drawer

At least in my mind

I was a big Gazza fan for elevating the game from the doldrums of the 80s almost single handedly at times, but that FA Cup run pre-semi was 4 games v Blackpool, Oxford, Pompey and Notts County! It probably helped in them days that we only ever saw highlights, just the best moments and Gazza had a lot of those.

Rose tinted specs would say Bobby Robson was a good England manager when in fact only another injury to a half fit Robson & a Wilkins sending off shaped 86 & in 90 player power led to Mark Wright playing in a back three.

Let's have a bit of balance here, today's lot have come up short in knock out football against any quality team they've played..... Hopefully that will change.

Another 'opinion' thread. Scholes and Gazza were absolutely brilliant in England shirts for my money.

Comparison with players from Southgate's virtue signallers are as futile as comparisons with Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney and Nat Lofthouse. Different era's. I know one thing - I would much rather watch the five players mentioned in their era's than todays overpaid and over rated automotons. It's like fucking chess these days.

Different eras are pointless comparing.

Current crop wouldn’t of made it then for being too soft and being laughed at for not supping.

Agree on the heroes of yesteryear looking ordinary now too as it’s evolved.

Always used to watch clips of 50/60/70’s teams and used to think how shit it looked but in reality those chaps had different attributes.
