I think we need to bin off some of these injury prone players. Mendes gomes, he gets back from a big injury and by the time he's had a number of games to bet back to speed he gets injured again. He's been like this for 2 seasons, there are other players out there.

Adeboyejo, it's just not worked, get rid.

Jones has to go no two ways about it.

Santos, I think it's time for him to leave. With Jones and him leaving I think the club can properly move on from the Evatt Era.

Some of these players are at a good age still. Gomes & Victor together could fund a few signings even with their injuries.

Nobody at our level or below is paying money for injury prone players, unless you're just referring to salary savings?

Vic can't go anywhere until he's fit anyway (Christmas?).

Nobody likely to take CMG off our hands with his fitness record, except maybe IE if he gets a L2 club.

I'd be more than happy adding Matete to the squad.  Does a bit of everything.

Seems like one of those players that needs a run in the side for momentum. Rather than being chopped and changed

Probably be going elsewhere though

Not for me Matete, too in and out and if we seriously want top two we need better and players from above with experience who deliver most games.

Matete isnt right for how i think SS is going to have us set up, but it all really depends on that. For how i suspect we'll be set up in a 4231, the two have to be able to win the ball and move it quickly to the 3. Sometimes if 1 of the 2 is really strong, the other will be a really good passer, Matete doesn't fit any of those 3/4 roles.

Matete is one of many who promise so much, but have no end product. He’s very striking in the way he wins the ball and takes it forward … and forward … and forward, until misplacing a pass or shot or losing it.

I have Cogley is the same bracket. Looks good going forward until the final ball (if it’s not backwards) and looks good in defence until he’s out of position and/or misses the challenge.

Too few players are exactly what we need.

I think the chat about Matete (valid points, I'm not saying he's perfect by any stretch) just illustrates that we can't say "keep or get rid" without knowing what the alternatives are.  If we can sign that 32 year old ex championship defensive midfielder who tackles and drives the team on, get rid of Matete by all means.

If its essentially the current midfield, we'd be losing our only tackler and only player capable of beating a man and carrying the ball forward.  He would also look better with a proper CF to pass to.  Just in the last 3 games I lost count of the number of times he played a good 10 or 15 yard pass into the feet of Lolos, Etete, Collins or McAtee and with a Wrexham or Stockport forward that ball sticks and we create a half chance.  But with us it just bounces off them, the ball is cleared and Matete is running back to retrieve a situation he's partly to blame for, out of position by overestimating our ability to hold up a simple ball.

In all honesty, Matete hasn't shown me a lot to get enthused about over the season, and has looked a bit stuck in the middle of being the tackling holding player or the ball carrying, driving sort and ending up doing neither particularly well. Until the decimation of the squad in recent weeks SS wasn't having him either.

He has, though, certainly looked a fair bit better in the last few games, in that two with GT. The point about the ball coming back to him too quickly is also a valid one, if the forwards are piss weak at keeping hold of it the midfield is often out of position and overworked

In a 5231, the 2 are the engine of the team, they keep the tempo up, intercept attacks and turn them around quick. They're the lynch pin that allows your attacking players to attack and your defending players to defend.

You tend to get one who's an all rounder with ok passing and another who's very scrappy and aggressive, often technically not the best (if they were theyd be in the Premier League). I've we're being honest neither GT or Matete can do this, maybe Morley comes close to fitting that all rounder type. Not sure.

532, 452, 5212, 343 these all necessitate different types of players. So if SS wants some flexability who knows either or both could stay or replacements of the same type of player are signed.

It could be argued that, when the only comparator is Thomason, this gives a false impression.

I don't mind Matete, but he didn't get too much time under Evatt, despite him having brought him in.

SS clearly doesn't feel he's right neither.

I'm not sure he's been really invested recently, as I reckon he knows he's on his way, and will be a free agent.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's already lined up, but not with us.

Wigan maybe.
