I think some coaches work on the basis of “places someone needs to move into” with players having some freedom to interchange so for example if we’re trying to move it up the wing the person on the ball has the option of a back pass, a square pass and a forward pass - with the nearest player moving into each place. Win? Yes. 3 points? Yes. All the stats and 'tactics' I care about. We must get up this season. Quote
desperado Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 Must admit, I didn’t know this rule. I didn’t realise half-time was exempt from your 3 occasions to make 5 subs. I didn’t think Simons was going to be allowed on! No, substitutions made at half-time do not count towards the three in-play substitution occasions (or windows). The rule allows each team to make a maximum of five substitutions in a match, which must be done during a maximum of three stoppages in play, plus an additional opportunity during the half-time interval. Whitesince63 Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 Let’s wind the clock back and just have only one sub allowed or maybe one outfield sub and a keeper if needed. Too many subs just spoil the flow of games more often than they help it. Quote

Not all change is bad, moving with the times is sometimes a good thing. Yes of course we all get frustrated when we are losing with any break (purposeful or not) in play. Other ways would be found to slow a game down if it wasn’t subs. But, (and similar to the upping to of 9 on the bench) allowing for more variation, choice, innovation is good IMO. Look at a squad like ours. On Saturday those creative subs helped win us the game. It keeps a squad on its toes, provides more game time for players, more players are part of the match day squad. For a squad like ours it could prove to be the difference in us getting promoted if Saturday is anything to go by. Quote

Part of the enjoyment was seeing players out on their feet while others had the fitness to carry on . Lose that a bit with 5 subs Quote

Not sure that was planned Burstow gets frustrated and comes deep, Forss then is intelligent enough to push up. Still would like to see McAtee play the nine alongside Burstow who i think would compliment each others game. Quote

We noticed it straight from kickoff it did seem as though both forwards had been asked to work more . Exeter seemed to want to play out from the back. Strangely Magennis won some ball when they went long but they had no one up there. Not saying either forward is usually lazy. Quote

The rule that people forget is no off side from goal kicks. Mansfield centre forward got a run at Toal a few times from coming from behind him. Quote

Lostock Whites Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 Elmander will undoubtedly be the biggest flop, slightly less so when we do eventually get back up and make with inflation his signing look less traumatic. But at the very least with Elmander he showed glimpses had good runs of form on occasion and scored goals for us that's still talked about today. With Randall it's just been completely nothing. Like genuinely nothing about him whatsoever. I want it to work for him but its nearly been a year and he's not even been injured or anything like that. He's weak, not really got any pace. Is the same with his shooting, weak and always on the floor. He doesn't even create or goes past players. Just nothing. Dempsey has scored, assisted and done more in 2 or 3 games than he has done in an entire year. Says everything. Quote

I never understood why Megson gave him the number 9 shirt. Worse still he was heavily criticised by many for being a shit centre forward - totally not his position. Quote
