Winchester White Posted May 2, 2025 Posted May 2, 2025 I understand shit holes railing against the incumbent government, that always happens. What isn't clear is what posh want in those areas crying out for people to work the fields and bring in the fruit and veg? They have ditched the Tories and gone for Comrade Nige Quote

It'll be a lively few months ahead. At least their local leader does have some experience of leading a council, their challenge will be how many new councillors they'll have who will be like fish out of water getting to grips with what they're now responsible for. An additional problem for LCC is that is going to be changed from its current guise. Lots of staff changes, new roles, redundancies/redeployment etc. Current councillors from LCC and ones from the districts can't agree on whether it is a good move or a bad one! Watch this space. The current government has found it very difficult to sort that out. I see no reason why Reform would also not find it just as difficult. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 2, 2025 Posted May 2, 2025 Bit like the loonies voting for the government? Anyway, only Reform and the libdems currently have control over a council. Conservative, Labour, Greens, independents don't have one between them. A few still to be declared I think. An astonishing day, whether folk like it or not. Quote

Let's see if they can deliver on any of the proposals. Council budgets are a maze of multiple funding sources you can't just shift funds awarded by The Arts Council or Sport England to fill in potholes. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 2, 2025 Posted May 2, 2025 Jesus fucking Christ have far can folk be from reality. Look at the maps. Red wall areas, staunch labour voters, punting for Reform. Some agricultural/rur areas, formerly Conservative voters, have voted for Reform, some for Lib Dems. Conservatives have lost a huge number of councillors, but from a high base. Labour have lost significant numbers from a low base. Lib dems gained a lot, which often happens at local elections. Labour barely have seat in Lancashire, which has a broad mix of wards. Some huge rethinking required by the traditional big two. Quote

Of course it's not unusual for locals to see the ruling party to get a bit of a hit- though not always (2021)- but this is something else entirely. Famous polster just explained that if these vote shares were transferred to a general election, then Reform would have an overall majority. If that doesn't sound alarm bells, then nothing will. Quote
