Take Hunt Off
In the ealy nighties I was working in the North East & visited a pub in Bishop Auckland .The landlord who served me asked me where I was from , he then asked me if I followed the Wanderers to which I concurred .He then told me used to play professionaly for Middlesboro & Hartlepool & that he was part of the team under Jack Charlton that only lost four games all season when they won the then second div title. One of the two games they lost was at Bolton & he played in the game at rightback up against Peter Thompson .The game was played on easter monday the second of two away games .The landlords name was Peter Creamer & he told me that the first choice full back John Craggs hated playing against Thompson & he had a good idea that Craggs would cry off after the Saturday game which is what happened subsequently he got a skinning & Bolton won 2-1.He refused payment for my pint out of respect for the great Peter Thompson. Walkden White
RIP Tomo. Made a massive impression on me as a young lad watching the Wanderers and I was just amazed at his skill.
wakey
RIP Probably my first and greatest footballing hero. Always wished I'd been old enough to fully appreciate (always worry childhood memories = I exaggerated how brilliant he was). Very few clips around of him in action for us, but thankfully the few snippets I have seen seem to confirm it. Never seen a winger take the piss like this fella could. Mounts Kipper
Gutted about that, top top footballer, also lucky enough to have met him when I went to see a customer in the lakes my customer said I’m going to a rotary club afternoon dinner where there’s a guest speaker and lucky enough when we turned up it was Peter Thompson I was introduced to him and didn’t twig it was him, I asked him who he’d played for thinking it would be Barrow or Carlisle when he said England, Preston, Liverpool and a lovely little spell at Bolton I said bloody hell I should of recognized you I’m a BWFC fan, he said he loved his time at Burnden and he was lovely fella with no edge to him. Sad day it’s shit getting old and your heroes as a kid passing away. RIP Tomo. Edited December 31, 2018 by Mounts Kipper
freds dad
A great bit of business by Jimmy Armfield brought Peter Thompson to Burnden and I remember as a youngster getting excited that we were signing someone from Liverpool. A great winger who I had the pleasure of watching him and I can still see him now skinning full backs. RIP

Sluffy
Along with Tony Dunne he was the best and most skilful player I ever saw play live until the more recent era of Hierro, Djorkaeff and Anelka. Thompson was a World Cup winner, and League and FA Cup winner when we signed him so I'm not exaggerating my claim in any way. Time catches up with us all in the end sadly. Thanks for the memories Thomo. RIP PS - remember his testimonial well - some 40 years ago now! Frightening how time slips away.
