Bluetooth can calculate how far away you are from another phone?

yep, it can measure the signal strength between two connected devices, it knows what type of device you are using and connected to.

there will be an algorithm behind that app that takes into account how far away you were from the inefected person, the duration, and how symptomatic the person was likley to be at the time. They'll assign scores to each variable and if your mobile gets above a certain cumulative score, you'll be notified.

Bluetooth on mobiles usually works up to 30ft, will be less in your pocket - The app connects to others with their apps on - it will record how far away you were from the other mobile, and for how long - there will be some algorithm behind it that works out if you were in danger on not.

The QR code is diferent - if someone tests positive after checking in at various places, it will send a message out to all of those who checked in using the same QR code  - im presuming with a time and date, so you can work out if you were there or not.

Thats how I understand it anyway.

and from what we know - your chances of catching outside in a well ventilated area, if you distance, are very very slim

Cheers, good info 👍

There's a lad who trains and plays footy with my lad a lot - he and his dad both tested positive  - The lad and dad both developed symptoms, one night after training for the dad and the next day for the lad. This was before the app - he messaged everyone asap.

The lad had been at training / playing with different groups of about 15 lads in total for 6 hrs over the previous 3 days, and the dad was stood outside in groups of distanced parents for a similar time, about 1- 2 meteres away ( I know cos he was stood/sat next to me for most of the time)

Nobody else has had symptoms 8 days later, but you could see at the training sessions over the weekend, everyone stood further apart, the coaches made the training a bit more distanced.

The signal strength is laregely redundant, as there are too many environmental factors that can affect it.

Bluetooth can tell if 2 devices come into proximity, but not reliably how close they are.

Unless the UK devs have solved a problem that has taxed the industry for nigh on 20 years.

It's going to happen, and I suspect from next week, which means the good people of Bolton will have to stay under their current restrictions for another 3 weeks as a minimum

I'd expect more of these "circuit break" type lockdowns in the run up to Christmas. I guess the idea is that proper national lockdowns can slow it right down.

As and when they do a proper National lockdown, let's hope they don't fuck about this time and make a half arsed effort. Let's do it like they did in China for about 3 months, get the army on the street  -  everybody under curfew, if you're seen out when you're not supposed to be, you get shot dead, or if you're lucky just arrested and banged up for 30 days with immediate effect. Everybody is allowed 30 minutes outside exercise a day, but you can travel no further than 100m/200m from your house. You also get allocated an hour a week to go shopping, again, try shopping outside of that allocated time, then you're in breach of your curfew....and you should be shot. 🙂

it might sound a tad draconian, but it helped Wuhan get back to some sense of normality. As some of you know, I speak to people in Wuhan on a daily basis, and whilst I'm told they still have a few cases, it's nowhere near as bad as the start of the year when thousands were dying of it (obvs official figures say it was less, but I'm told that there might have  been a few more deaths than actually reported.....) - anyway, the Chinese are good people who do what they are told, and as such, they in the main stuck to the rules. Still now, the factories I deal with, everybody rocks up in the morning, is temperature tested, then they have to shower and put on "work clothes" which are then taken and cleaned at the end of each shift, when they have to shower again and get back in their normal clothes to go home in. During the work time, on the actual shop floor, all speaking is banned during the working day as well (only those in the offices, are allowed to speak).....at lunch, when they go to the canteen, everything is split into individual pods (via plastic screens) and no conversation is allowed, if you're caught talking, instant dismissal. Every few days Government officials turn up up the factory and test various surfaces, if any trace of the virus is found, the factory is immediately closed down and all staff sent home for a 28 day isolation period......which is why they deep clean every night. It's nut's really, but the plus side is their productivity is massively up, and it's not affected my supply chain thus far 🙂

A bit too liberal if you ask me.

I know, to be honest in over 20 years of going over there, I've never really seen a lot of "chatting", I remember saying how do you get on not having a chat at work. The response "We come to work, socialising is for after work" which is the difference between our work ethics. When we first moved all our office staff to WFH, they were amazed how they suddenly had a lot more time to get everything done, which is why we now finish early on a Friday, basically folk are getting shit done, and not gassing for half an hour at a time in the TV room about EastEnders and what wallpaper they're thinking of buying.

I'm no expert whatsoever on Bluetooth signal modulation - is this accurate?

I know it's a common cold but was just testing the system out, seems to work okay. But it did take me 3 attempts to get a home kit delivery due to the system being down or there were none available.

Maybe there’s none available due to folk with just colds requesting them? 😀

I didn't want one, the ZOE app requested I take one, but you are probably correct, and I've just contributed..... hopefully 😏

Did the same to me a few weeks ago

Just go to a centre then

Last night at 8:20pm I booked Manc Airport drive through testing for 8:30am this morning

Was so simple

And whilst I was thereI was the only car there in any of the bays

Results tomo - can’t knock it for efficiency
