Carlos Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 It’s an interesting experiment; if herd immunity is thing then Bmet will be one of the first places to be clear of infections. Not by design. Quote
fatolive Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Doctor who works at RBH who lives near me told me today there were now 19 cases in RBH from 3 last week. No reason to doubt her but doesn’t fit with the other figures on this thread , un less the difference is admissions v those in for something else that have picked it up Quote

Nowack Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Two of my clients are Drs. who both work for the NHS as well as private and they said that the hospitals they work in are at capacity (reduced for distancing) and that it is equatable to winter at the moment so we're fearful of what the next 6 months are going to bring. The official estimate seems to be we will expect half as many deaths we have had already over the next 6 months linked to covid. Interestingly when I asked about capacity and the Nightingale hospitals they laughed and said that they were never going to work. The army has a very limited number of medical staff and when they asked to send someone to one at the height of the outbreak they were told that would be fine but they would need to send along 4 nurses as well. Beds are one thing, trained staff are another altogether. Quote

Bolton NHS trust had 148 covid beds occupied in mid April, if there's only 19 in now, as suggested on this thread, there's quite a bit to go before they get to capacity. It's going to rise, for definite, over the next month, by how much depends on how well the new restrictions work and are adhered to, and the weather. Hope it stays sunny for weeks. My mate is a senior planner for NHS, covering chorley, preston, South Ribble. He said zero covid beds occupied in his region as of Friday, and zero in Wigan and Leigh too. Quote

Nowack Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 By capacity he was talking about the hospital in general with social distancing measures in place. These will clearly need to be loosened or removed but that will have consequences. The point is that hospitals are struggling now with backlogs etc and they are very worried about what is around the corner. As we see not only covid deaths collateral from postponed or cancelled procedures as well as the usual winter deluge. Thinking about it when he said 50% more deaths over 6 months then he may have been referring to overall or excess deaths. Quote

peelyfeet Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Lad off sons footy team sent home from school with covid symptoms today. He played in a 6 v 6 training session yesterday for 2 hrs. If he's positive this might show how likely transmission is outdoors when playing sport. Supposed to be minimal. Fingers crossed. Quote

They do but they are not new, they are in existing wards and IC units with existing ICU staff. I think the point is that during winter they see a surge in seasonal related illnesses that push the NHS, they are already at that point now so even if Covid goes away they are going to be up against it. Tonge moor green jacket Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Be interesting to see if mask wearing helps reduce other respiratory illnesses like colds and flu. Cant do any harm. Quote

My point was really that the hospital could be stretched in terms of capacity and at the same Covid wards virtually empty. Quote

It's way up on the last couple of weeks - and every COVID+ patient needs to be isolated. Luckily this jump in numbers seems to be coming from the 18-50 age group so far less of them end up at RBH. #lockuptheoldiesandletscrackon Quote

Im not arguing that, but they’d say if 22 blokes can run around a field in close contact then groups of them should be able spread out over a moor Quote
