Given that covid is new and very different, and that many, if not most are having essentially the same issues and patterns, I'd suggest that the government is performing largely like most others. The start of the process today in getting relevant inquiry (or inquiries, there may be more than one) up and running.

Until all this is done, and such investigations completed (perhaps also with WHO work and those of other nations) I prefer to reserve judgement on how well or otherwise its all been handled.

I do think there is an insidious tendency to focus on the bad and not balance it up with the good, which creates more despondency and risks becoming a whirlpool. 

One thing I noticed when on holiday in Scotland was repeated public information broadcasts. These constantly reinforced the message, thanked people for their efforts and presented a positive angle, which I think helped keep people onside.

The new one down here is of a similar type, albeit a bit weaker.

Mary Doll quite happy to offer a sterner warning when required which perhaps helps too.

On the subject off a vaccine, 2 of the 3 drug companies have come out this evening ( mainly because Trump is still pushing his timeline)  and give their version of what they expect it to happen ,Moderna have said that if everything goes to plan the trials could be over end of October early November, Pfizer have said mid November, but and this is the big but by the time all off the data has been collected and analysed you will be looking at the April to May timeline for a vaccine. AstraZeneca have not said anything but the trials that have just restarted have only restarted in the UK, the FDA here at the moment have not given approval for the trail to restart

From someone who’s just finished a shift at Bolton Hospital, she tells me that a couple more have been admitted overnight and they are on whatever is the next highest alert (I think highest alert is when 273 cars have crashed on the M61)
