thing is it’s so fucking boring now all these wacky suggestions etc

that if does kick back in nobody will be arsed

The World Cup in Qatar is in December 2020, and people were worried about how that would affect domestic seasons in Europe  -doesn't have to now.

Cancel this season totally

Start new season March 2021, finish November 2021, season after the same, start March 2022, finish November 2022 -  works out perfectly

So media reports bunesliga to return on May 15th government given green light

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-8287775/Bundesliga-return-15-German-government-gives-green-light.html

Former Chelsea forward Salomon Kalou was later suspended by Hertha Berlin after shaking hands with team-mates and appearing to make light of the pandemic live on social media.

The Ivory Coast international also filmed himself interrupting a team-mate's test while screening it live on Facebook in an act that was branded 'absolutely unacceptable' by the German league.

Needed a big league like this to knock it on the head, if this goes ahead ours will follow

So explain how you go about playing professional football without a massive increase in risk ? Just listen to the options. Play the games in Oz ? Players in face masks ? Football is a contact sport unlike schools and other industries.

Do you really think that a game of football presents the same risk as a school re opening ? If yes why is not workable further down the pyramid ?

I am not arguing for schools to reopen anyway. Why is it so important for the EPL to re start so soon ? The only honest answer is money.

We already know there will be rules going forward about keeping a safe distance from each other and some people are struggling with rules now. If you allow football to restart totally ignoring the rules we want people to obey it is a terrible example.

I’m saying that professional football starting up doesn’t pose a significant risk for the country, you have 22 players on a pitch at 10 grounds across the country playing, so 220 in total (rest of the staff can keep distance) - that will have no negative impact on the countries R value.

Sending tens of thousands of kids back to school, whilst also lower risk than some things, would be significantly higher risk for the countries R value. Individual risk for the footballers yes, no more so than many other workers like shop workers etc. At the end of the day if the players don’t want to play then fair enough, however they shouldn’t expect to be paid as per their contract. I don’t think the biggest issue that the PL has is risk, I think it’s a vastly inferior product that people won’t want to pay for (certainly the rest of this season). Sky and BT won’t want to be paying the same rate if they can’t sell the product onto an audience at the same rate, that will have the biggest impact here IMO

Why won’t it work down the pyramid? Finances, the smaller clubs rely on gate receipts to stay afloat, the PL can operate without that money - what’s the point playing behind closed doors if it sends you under? might as well hibernate with a vastly reduced squad to pay (50% of league 1 & 2 players contracts are up next month) then get going when the turnstiles are open

I am not sure ours will follow, the Virus scenario in Germany is completely different to U.K.

it may not follow, but if Germany start again, those who want us back and running aren't going to let it go

What message does it send on social distancing if you allow football to restart ? People will get together to watch games as if the games are on it can not be that bad can it ? Lads will start playing parks etc etc

It is not about 22 players, how about coaches ? Physios ?

Do you think under the circumstances and with the various restrictions mentioned the league should restart ? You say it will be a vastly inferior product. Let’s assume no relegation what is the point ?

I assume that under the 2 metre social distancing rule means no tackling, perhaps players can shout "Tackle" when they are near the opposing player? Man marking won't be allowed as well.....you just know this whole restart cannot work, whatever the distance they agree, it won't work. The virus can live for up to 3hours on a surface, so if one player heads it, it could be contaminated

Yes all or nothing

Thing is, this must be the broadcaster's wish as well. I mean if it's last but one game, West Ham v Villa with both still in the shit, then even though it's behind closed doors and played at Reading, people will still watch out of morbid curiosity or a chance to gloat at rivals; there will be genuine tension even with no fans that will make for good viewing, with full squads going hell for leather. If there's no relegation it becomes a meaningless game at a random ground, with two teams putting out their reserves to protect the stars. Nobody will watch. Nobody who bought rights will make anything from it.

Make no mistake, Liverpool will be shouting the loudest and pushing for a conclusion.

Given the amount of the cunts that crept out of the woodwork this last year or 2, broadcasters will just charge advertisers  100 times more than usual to be front and centre for the scouse parade.

Meaningless matches will probably get just enough viewers to make it worthwhile based on the fact there's fuck all else to do and the audience is at home.

I can honestly see it happening, and it really shouldn't.

Then again, if they do start everything up - with relegation on the cards as well - how long before a team in the shit announces that one of their backroom staff has "tested positive" and gone home to self isolate. And if you do have relegation from the PL, that requires promotion to be sorted from the Championship...

Scrap the lot, start again - with us on zero. Use the tv slots for "Celebrity Battlenips" hosted by Basil Brush.
