We do seem to get quite a few, in particular as a number of our crosses seem to be cut out. In terms of numbers of goals, we seem to have a decent number from set pieces, so can't grumble. Just wonder if it is the most efficient way of capitalising on our approach play. short corners are more likely to lead to a goal

When the ref holds the corner up to speak to defender/attacker and then walks back to his spot, the corner is then taken and the ref blows straight away for a free kick to the defending team. Why the fuckery doesn't the corner taker just take a short corner ? Not somet to lose sleep over but it's off my chest now !

It’s always a foul by the attacking team in those situations too, never a penalty. When that happens I don’t know why teams don’t peel off to the edge of the box to remove all the pushing and shoving and then run on to it and then at least there is less chance of giving away a free kick. Traf
Surely a traditional 'long' corner is against the way we play the rest of our game?

I reckon it was better than 1 in 50.

Eddie
Didn’t they get about 15 goals between them that season? Unbelievable contribution from your centre back pairing!

gonzo
Those corners we took v Oxford were good. Not seen them since I don't think. I love Josh Sheehan but christ he can't take a corner.
Eddie
Ashworth has been our best corner taker this season IMO. Reading it looked like we had a plan - identified that the keeper was weak and put it on top of him every time. Bristol we just gave the lad catching practice and everyone in the box just cleared away so he had a nice easy catch. I do think they’re exaggerated in terms of supporters thinking they’re a genuine chance vs. how many actually convert into goals but there’s not much more frustrating than seeing them wasted over and over again. Dr. Feelgood
Regarding corners, & I've wondered for ages, as a player is about to take one they often make arm signals (usually both arms raised). It's reasonable to assume the movements signify 'going deep', 'near post', 'wide, near penalty spot' or something but they don't seem to. Does anyone know for sure ? I would imagine that we'd have a higher success rate though if our crossing from open play was a bit more accurate- it is a common source of exasperation on here particularly at D-C. Great football at times, then blocked for a corner.
Moderators Casino Posted April 9 Moderators Share Posted April 9 if you think back to the days when allardyce scored from the edge of the box every week, prob 3 times, tops, in his career nd paul jones to a lesser extent, it was percentage stuff, hit the penalty spot, centre back runs in to head it itd never happen now as defending is just so different you can rarely get a run at the ball, as defenders just block off, unless its near post and a couple of times toal has pulled it off refs doing their jobs might make for a more even fight i think we hit the first man so many times as the delivery is now required to be more precise, in just clearing the defender back to morais, what he did that few months was riduculous, helped by 2 defenders who got a taste for goals beevers later played 90 games for peterborough and didnt score and wheater scored 32 in 400, with 7? or so of them in a few months tribute to morais and whatever the coaching crew were up to

Some clever ones too- would like to see a bit more of them. There was one played to the edge of the area, and then eventually back to Williams who bent in a blinder.
