"One thing is for certain though, we aren't a Reading, a Birmingham a Bristol City, we tend to not spend too long in each division.

I seen a stat that we are the most promoted side in history and that we have been in the top flight in every decade - This keeps me optimistic!"

thats what has made us one of the most exciting sides to watch according to some equation published in a while ago.

So many promotions and relegations.

Wile rochdale at the time were the most boring but that changed with some relegations and promotions in more recent years

Yeah, I know it some a burnden at times supporting the Wanderers but there are a lot of boring teams to support out there and with us there's never a dull moment.

The most stability I've seen us have was the 11 years in the premier league

We haven't really (in my time) ever been a boring mid table championship team.

In the 70s always pushing for promotion, in the 80s always battling relegation,90s pushing for promotion again, 20s well what can i say?? TBH I'm ready for a breather and would welcome a couple of mid-table championship finishes.

I gave up caring about what league we were in a long time ago. I just want us to be competitive in whichever one.

the positivity from and the growth in our following is purely driven by the success we’re having on the pitch and the feeling that no matter who we are playing and where we have a chance of winning the game.

whilst promotion might drive a small initial increase in ST sales. Both our average “home” attendance and away followings would drop off pretty quickly if we’re in mid table mediocrity.

I'd snatch your hands off for a couple of years of that in the championship.  Just over 2 years ago I was hoping we could get as high as mid table in L2, for a month or 2 I'd have been happy to avoid relegation to non league.  I won't be turning my nose up at having a similar season to Sunderland with some great wins mixed in with indifferent results.  Drawing v PNE or Blackburn would give me more pleasure than beating Forest Green or Cheltenham 1-0.

I don't think there's many fans if any can say that they've watched their team play in all 4 divisions and also in the knockout stages of Europe!

Great stuff👍 Remember it all. Used to have a City fan that lived next door to me. In the late 90’s he said he was jealous of me because we always had something to play for and he’d never been to Wembley. Luckily he moved to  Oz. 😊

Edit. I go back to 1966 so could add more to the list.

And 2 cup wins at Wembley, and got to final of 2 league cups.  We went 28 years from 1958 to 1986 without any sort of final, and only one semi final.  We've got to 5 cup finals, had 2 cup wins plus lost 3 semi finals of major cups in the last 37 years, that's 8 "successful" cup seasons compared to 1 in the preceding 28 years.  Aside from everything else listed above.

That just proves the point there is no better and more interesting team in the 4 leagues to follow, the scenarios played out are so wide and varied it is beyond belief.

Back in the nineties. I drew a graph for a United colleague of mine showing the progress we had made over the previous ten years and a trajectory of where we’d be in 5 years time. He laughed (they all do) but we surpassed it. Progress is slow but progressive. That’s all that matters. 👍
