I think part of this is harking back to when we used to leave Gardner or Ricketts up on the half way line when defending corners and we scored a few times from it .

Not so much the scoring from it, though that's always nice, but someone to receive or challenge for a cleared ball. To reduce the likelihood of a clearance simply coming straight back in. Reduce pressure & potentially build something ourselves.

11 back Inevitably means no relief. It's just not good.

Now, about those 11 then not marking up ... a quite different matter.

It was more about my personal vanity than his experience, he has plenty.

With you

Am sure when i was a kid all managers were at least 50

I'm also older than Eddie Howe and Bournemouths manager off top of my head

Brighton's is 31 which is really taking the piss

Quite correct you have your two Quickest and smallish players who are not the best at defending standing either side of the half way line...Say Schon and Desmond it gives us a outlet but more importantly it would drag 3 at least defenders back to mark them, at least one of those three would be a centre back

As I get older, I realise it’s just a perception of older people, when you’re younger. Believe it or not, Big Sam was not much older than Schumacher (44) when he got the Bolton job.

You might have a different opinion if you were in that away end at Huddersfield watching Schon.

On corners there was no way Charles was going to do anything with the attention Schon was giving him - he did a proper job on him. So much so that Charles stopped trying to do anything from an attacking perspective, he was more concerned with the stick he was getting off the ball.

The more i watch Schon the more i like him, was not his greatest fan when i first watched him. If not Schon certainly Vic if he is playing and better still Collins who would  drag two defenders back just for himself.

No manager is leaving Collins one on one in this league

That tache put years on him though! 😁

Well maybe Sheehan or Morley then.  As @Dr. Feelgood says, if 2 of our's are left up front, that's 3 less of their players we need to bother marking.  And a great chance of only having to defend the corner rather than the 2nd and 3rd attack because we can't clear our lines.  And we won't be coming up against many players as easy to knock off the ball as Charles most weeks!

Anyway my last word on tactics/formations, wrong thread/wrong time 😀

Going to be really interesting times seeing how Steven goes about things, in that sort of situation and more generally. FWIW I'd leave Collins up, he's hopeless at any sort of defending and not keen on aerial, physical contact. Leave him out of it and he'd occupy two of theirs

Everyone tends to remember the water splash game and Wembley when thinking about us coming across Steven's team in the past but my more vivid memory is of the 0-0 draw at home when we outplayed them for 90 minutes but defence and keeper held firm and they used all manner of shithousery to stop us getting through. A bit of that instilled into us would be no bad thing

I honestly think we will make it 3 years in a row at Wembley.

It will either be for the Vertu trophy final or Playoff final.

I honestly think top 2 is not out of the question either, long way to go still.

But for now we need to stay grounded and not get ahead of ourselves.

Will see what Schuey makes of this team.

I’ve no doubt this is the truth, and he will prove to be far more adaptable than Evatt (not hard), but I can’t help think that’s a planted / scripted comment that he made sure he specifically referred to.

Either he’s been clever enough to pick up on some of the fans’ biggest annoyances with Evatt or the club have given him pointers as to what would make a great first impression (I reckon the former) - otherwise it just seems a bit coincidental that he refers to adaptability within 10 mins of speaking to the fans.

Looking forward to seeing it and a bit of pragmatism in the dugout!

Or then again maybe he really is just that bit more adaptable? 😀

Yes it’s a bit like the other way round. As you get older all the bobbys look like school kids.

Richie Kyle was Rob Edwards' Assistant at Luton. Mark Hughes was Schumacher's First Team Coach at Plymouth.

Sounds like you're 10,000ft about grounded! Nice to be able to be optimistic for first time in a while though!
