Yes a great Cross header at the 'Pool end (we only ever seemed to score at their end in them days).   To be fair even if we'd won in 85, it would still be 40 years since the last one 😀

My mate at Wigan Tech had recently passed his driving test, but didn't have a car.  My Dad for some unknown reason allowed a 17 year old he'd never met to drive his Vauxhall Opel to Blackpool, he was as naive as me.

Relatively huge following inflated after we'd just won our only previous two December games, "Bolton are back!!" - this was a month after the infamous Darlington 0-3 on Bonfire night, and losing at bottom of the the 4th div Wrexham in FA Cup, so it was a mini revival.  Then we played Wigan at home on NY Day (1-2) and it started a familiar run of 3 defeats.

From memory we were supposed to play away at Bury in between the Blackpool and Wigan games but it was called off with bad weather.

My main memory of that Wigan home game was Steve Thompson getting sent off for no reason. Years later the ref admitted he'd got muddled having booked Wigan's number 8 and then sent Tomo off as our number  8 thinking he was giving him a second yellow. This ref was one Kenny Walmsley - a bloke who went to school with my dad and had been a BWFC nut in his youth. You couldn't make it up. Anyway - this should be on the pie-shaggers thread. Let's stick to the seaside shit.

did the car come back in one piece?

We got surrounded by 10 Blackpool fans after stopping at traffic lights coming away from the ground.

They turned the car over, smashed the windows and stole our Collins road atlas.

Luckily the team coach was passing a few minutes later, Derek Scott, Dave Sutton and Warren Joyce helped us chase the mob away and get the car back on the road.  My Dad laughed it off saying boys will be boys, and I bought him a 1986 road atlas to make it right.

Would take that 11 at a heart beat, yet we still persist with the 5 at the back without the ball 3 with the ball.

A simple hoof over the top gets us in all sorts of shit. Opposition wide man has acres of both time and room to cross the ball.

We would not swop that back three for any maybe bar Birminghams yet we ship way too many goals

Time we went with a back four and made it hard for the opposition

My only question mark would be whether Sheehan plays, he's played more minutes of football than anyone during this break, including an away trip last night.

Josh will be flying though ster that get out of jail saver last night and I personally thought he had a really good all round game so hopefully he’s well up for our trip to the seaside?

I'd have that.

This lots main attack is Bloxham who roams and drifts in from the right and that big fucker Ennis. I'd have Toal nowhere near him.

They can play football this lot.

I fervently believe that the best players want, need & benefit from actually playing.

A decent squad allows a change for tactical reasons, to avoid playing with bumps and t refresh but overall you can't beat playing.

Rest can come with a reduced intensity in training.

Can’t see Sheehan starting after a long trip and two games will be Randell

The only way I don’t want Sheehan in, is if SS feels tactically this isn’t the game for him.

If he’s the best we’ve got for this game then he plays. Saturday - Tuesday games are not unusual and reason to leave out because of long trip fatigue.

I’d be surprised if Rice, Kane, Rashford don’t start for their respective sides this weekend after playing twice.

I don't want Randall anywhere near this fixture.

Or next Tuesday for that matter.

These aren't the games for fannies.

Agreed.

I’d love to see Dempsey get 20-30 mins on Sat and then hopefully start vs Wigan. Exactly the type of player we need for these fixtures

I'd be very surprised if Dempsey features in these next 2 games. He's likely to be eased in through sub appearances but, if we can get him sharp at the right time, he's a potential difference maker in the Play Offs (if we get there)

I’m torn. You’re absolutely right about him being a difference maker in the play offs - a fit and firing Dempsey gives the team balance that nobody else can. However, lose these 2 games and the chances of us getting to the play offs for him to be the difference are massively reduced.

Just seeing him on the bench as an option will do me. Rather him coming on for the last 15 mins to protect a huge 3 points than Randall - and that’s nothing to do with fitness, just pure heart and battle.

Yep - all true - I just think with someone as relatively injury prone as Dempsey, they'll err on the side of caution. Maybe he'll get a spot on the bench.

I hope we can get him fit. Honestly think he's a huge player at this level when on top of his game.
