Yeh, I  get it, I’ve probably, beer induced, gone a bit OTT, because I’m wanting him to be the answer in goal.

Your response is a bit more analytical in terms of shot stopping.

But what I won’t renege on, is the feeling I get in terms of the confidence I seem to be getting from his presence and handling in the box. And he made a good save today, not sure he could have done much with the goal.

Today was a good day for him and one to be positive about him, not negative

On TSL I think it was interesting on the Buff this week that they had an "expert" letter critiquing this technique.

I'm not a goalkeeping expert at all so have no idea beyond the basics from playing outfield, and I will say he fills the defence with confidence on covering his box, and sweeping up. I've seen him nod a few balls out of play that would otherwise have resulted in shots on goal and probably goals if he hadn't.

However, the "expert" was questioning his basic goalkeeper saving skills. Which is where noone would be able to find evidence to say he's excelled from the low number of shots to goals ratio.

For me, as long as the defence is happy he'll do all the covering long balls, catching crosses etc, he's probably conceding fewer goals even if he's not a great shot stopper.

Hope you're still not settling for 5 points in next 3 😀  The other promotion contenders would love us to only win 1 in 3.  It has to be 2 wins or we stay off the pace.

After today’s win 😊I did say earlier two more wins in 3 would have us punching.

But 5 points wouldn’t be a disaster.

And I still think that.

Two draws would no doubt attract the doom mongers and get the calls that SS isn’t the man and all thoughts of promotion are finished, but I don’t think it would, we still wouldn’t be far off.

Where I'm at is that 2 draws in the next 3 means either 2 consecutive draws (not good) or 2 more aways without a win.  None of that would mean we can't get promoted, we could lose all 3 and I'd still back us to challenge for the play offs with this squad.  But just taking the results to date and judging those in isolation, I think we'd all agree that not winning any of our 1st 7 away games would be unacceptable.  It doesn't mean SS isn't the man etc.  And I'm definitely not settling for a draw v Cardiff, we need to catch them up.

In isolation, not winning at Burton would seem poor (bit like Northampton), and would understandably add more clamour in claiming its a poor away start.

Huddersfield and Cardiff are a bit more complex. Huddersfield is arguably our hardest away game on paper. Cardiff at home seems more tricky than Reading and Lincoln.

I suppose I’m coming from this from a perspective of not wanting to get too detached from our main competitors for promotion. Not losing to Cardiff and Huddersfield would keep us close to them.

Of course I’m being cautious and trying to ensure there’s not a meltdown when we we don’t win - it’s a perilous cause!

And hopefully a unnecessary one to predict as we are going to win all 3 😊

Fair comments.

My last word on this as I know I've gone early on future games when today is just about enjoying a nice win....but just as I don't want us underestimating opponents (Northampton, Posh, Burton), I don't want us overestimating what are very much L1 teams especially Huddersfield.  Last 6 games their only 2 win are Posh and Exeter, each by 1 goal.  Thrashed at Barnsley and Bradford, lost at 10-man Blackpool.  0-0 v Burton, home defeat v Stockport.  I'll take a draw if we win the other 2 but this isn't in the category of game we can't win.  Cardiff at home looks harder than Huddersfield away and we need to win 1 of them.

I thought it was our worst performance of this season 2-0 up and defending like knobheads  instead of going for the 3rd. I think we'll finish 8th or 9th so long as we play Forino and Johnston together.

They had one very good player, the young no 28, thought he was really decent

Garbett? Good player and capped 30 times for NZ at 23. Kind of player I like. Rats about in the middle, but has a great engine and a bit of quality.

Good player him, impressed today.

Don’t think I’d swap any midfielder in the league for Simons though. Very quickly becoming my favourite player for us for a long time.

Anyone questioning Burstow after this start to the season can't be watching us regularly.

I couldn't believe it the first game I saw in the flesh this season when he won a header from a punt up field - I'd got so used for 5 years to thinking we wouldn't even compete that I was shocked at a player flicking a header on.

If I wasn't a grown man I'd be getting Burstow on the back of my top.

He takes the ball fired onto his chest more comfortably than some of the strikers we've had in the last 10 years took easy balls, back to goal, onto their preferred foot.

Yeah, Cardiff and Huddersfield have lost six games already this season. Combined they've taken one point from two home games against Burton Albion. So I totally disagree we should be settling for a point going into any game this season.

Staying in touch is ok, we did that for basically all of last season. But you need to take the step to catch up and then go beyond these teams, and the quickest way to doing that is by beating them.

Made heavy weather of it.  Speaking of weather, it was fecking freezing

Was planning to be there but family matters intervened. Sounds like I'd have been calling in to the club shop right after the straighteners for summat warm.

Yep. The Stockport away game gave me cause for optimism with Burstow unless my memory is failing me. Put himself about and should have had a penalty.

Looking good.

Jury is still a bit out for me as well on TSL.  Seems to have many strengths but a few flaws. Again I’m no expert but on the save he did when we were still 2-0 up I was sat in ESL right behind their shot.  Was a good save, but I think he got a bit lucky and if their player had shot across him there was space to score inside the far post - TSL didn’t seem to be far enough out of goal / have his angles spot on. As others have said there was also a few (3?) occasions where he came out of his goal when he didn’t need to and ended up in no man’s land - could have been chipped. Really hope the coaches can iron the wrinkles out and the lad does well - we need him to.

I really don’t get the criticism he’s getting.

And this is from someone who was questioning his status at the beginning of this season.

Not everyone is willing to change their mind

If we do not win at Burton it is 3 or 4 points from  6 games which is not ‘a clamour claiming it’s a poor away start’ . It is a poor away start.
The Fishy produces league tables based on form for home and Away , a draw leaves us in 18th, 11 point behind the ‘leaders’.
We are 3rd in the Home version over last 6 games.
I am starting to question playing 2 wide players away from home based on the results. However if SS sticks with it as Forss has only started one of those games and does seem to make it more balanced I can understand it.

Got mates who are Stockport and Huddersfield season ticket holders and they (like me) haven’t seen a good team yet.

I think the standard this year is poor and we can win this league - nothing to be scared of.

Yep hands up on that one - I agree it makes it a very poor away start.

I was looking at it more from this clump of 4 games and not getting detached from some of the favourites for promotion.

And I am trying to be realistic. Going from winning 3/10 to 3/4, would be great and match our expectations, but it would need a big shift in form.

9-12 should be our aim of course (with  a win at Burton very much a priority) and getting 3 points yesterday was a must and a pleasing response to Northampton.

But I still maintain 5 points from the next 3 wouldn’t be a disaster.

Agreed on Conway, my thoughts too, we really got away with that one that was (marginally) offside near the end.  In fact we seemed to get a lot of marginal offsides in our favour today that could have punished Conway going AWOL more than once.

Christie did OK, but looked nackered and off the pace a couple of times, I think JDC will be back in straight away for his extra energy and ability to overlap, which we missed.  But a great assist, and he even had a half decent shot, which we don't get from JDC.

TSL made a save, it was routine, not in the good category for me, awful finish from the Posh player in a great position.  Catching was great, distribution very good but I've noticed a few times this season and especially today he loves to come off his line, he's asking to be lobbed, leaves his goal gaping.  Was in no-man's land when EE gave the ball away, the player could have shot from distance into an open goal if he'd noticed.  Still unconvincing to say the least, but at least the goal was relatively unsaveable.

Conway was running on fumes towards the end, strange there was no Taylor on the bench again.
