We were in Div 3 , they were Div 2 2-2 burnden 1 -1 ninian We won the 2nd replay at the hawthorns , 1-0 , midweek about 5k wanderers fans there , played in the snow ❄️. My dad's mate took a load of us in his car on a school night. The hawthorns serenaded to " when the whites go marching in " during heavy snow Always liked Cardiff since that day I was at the match at Burnden, and also the 2nd replay at the Hawthorns. Stuart Lee scored in around the 7th minute if memory serves me right? And, yes, the snow play its part! Quote

First few times I heard When The Whites Go Marching In at was one of the reasons I was drawn to being a fan, it was spine tingling. if you weren't at Burnden to hear it (from around 76 for a few years for me) its impossible to describe the sound it made. Nothing I've heard since comes close. Quote

Nothing I've heard since comes close. Said the same on here a few times before. It was unique - the clapping would just resonate with the whole Burnden stand, paddock and everything. The structure itself. Just heard it do that a few times in the late 70s; but it was literally the structure, resonating. Nowt like it since. Even may times with massive crowds in that era it often never quite happened. Just summat about those few times when quite honestly, the physical stand itself joined in. Quote

Just summat about those few times when quite honestly, the physical stand itself joined in. Great evocative description, brings it back. Even when crowds plummeted from 1980-ish, I remember hearing it a couple of times still resonating but obviously not to the same scale. My last recollection was Chelsea in 81-82, with about 7k on! It was televised by Granada, we'd come from behind to lead 2-1 (Foster) and the Burnden Paddock was in great voice when Chelsea equalised, and because the goal happened soon after our's, the celebratory atmosphere is caught on the short highlights. I've seen it a couple of times (probably on here) but can't find it now, no doubt it'll turn up sometime. Quote

Cardiff will say the way they play they won't concede. Not yet conceded from open play away and we don't get pens! But these are the big games and the challenges to be enjoyed, looking forward to it but no predictions from me. I thought we'd beat Reading, Lincoln, Northampton and Burton with the we play but who knows who'll turn up on the day, for either team (and not forgetting the ref). Quote
