auckland_bwfc Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Coming out fast and furious Saturday. New forward line will blow these open in the first 20. Lincoln 0 - 2 The once premier league overly entitled Bolton Wanderers Quote
Whitesince63 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Well we’ll find out this weekend whether Lincoln really are true contenders or just a bunch of pretenders. I accept they’ve played some decent teams so far this term but I’m convinced that now we’re finally getting into gear they’ll discover that they haven’t faced anything like the threat they will on Saturday. Full marks to them if I’m wrong but I think by 5pm on Saturday their fans will have that conceited little smirk wiped off their face and their confidence severely dented. Quote
jmjhb Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Looks like we've got a clean bill of health for Saturday, ACD and Forss excepted of course. Good news going into a 3-game week. Quote

Schumacher has the weapons now (is Kenny training yet?) so let’s get at them. Hope nobody gets crocked. Edited February 12 by Wanderlust Quote

Of course there serious contenders they have been up there all season were in the last 15 games . even if we beat them we would still be looking at them dropping points and at the minute that’s not happening we need to win to add a bit of pressure to them and see what happens Quote
Wanderlust Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) Lincoln fans super confident they will stuff us. In amongst the cat calling there are a couple of points that would support their case though, notably that apart from Stevenage, we haven’t played against a top half team in our last 14 games - and we haven’t won quite a few of those games. But they’re looking at the stats rather than our performances and don’t take account of our changed system. Edited February 12 by Wanderlust Quote

Possibly, but I'll stick my neck out and say that "fact" is based entirely on the table as it is now. Point still stands I suppose- we will see. Quote

But I’ve said all along that it’s a very tight league this year so it’s not as if they were all whipping boys. Even now after 30 games there’s only a dozen points between Luton in 7th and Donny in 20th. But we’re going to have to be at our best to turn these over at home and Forino must start to counter long Hamer’s throws into the 6 yard box and the crowd of big bodies they pile in there. They’re a budget team built to get promoted - nothing fancy but packed with athletes, tough guys in midfield especially and pace and they are well organised so we have to be disciplined in the fight (looking at you Erhahon) and bring our quality. Expecting a physical onslaught though and Ref Will Finnie is usually fairly tolerant. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 13 Posted February 13 A Lincoln fan has gone through the last 14 results and looked at the league position of each opponent at the time we played them? Definitely? In which case, why only 14? Why not look at the games before that? Victories over Cardiff and Huddersfield, a draw against Bradford. Selective stats to convince others of their superiority. May be justified come Saturday evening, but it suggests they're worried. Quote

Because he is a Lincoln fan looking to find a reason to justify to himself and others how shit we are and how they are going to muller us. Quote

He conveniently overlooks the fact that we have only lost 1 against the current top six and won 2. The pressure is on us but I think the later in the game it gets if it’s a draw they’ll drop deeper to protect that as they won’t want to lose and this will play into our hands. They will probably dominate us early on but we should have the pace and trickery with CBT and Apter to cause them issues. Also I would start with Christie for his experience Quote

I was on a Lincoln building site yesterday with some proper home and away lads. Good criach and we all agreed it's a biggie but too close to call and really looking forward to it. Monday will be interesting... Quote

In the absolute best case scenario for us, on Saturday Lincoln will have 61 points from 31 games. They'll still be three points ahead with the chance to make it six if they win their game in hand. It's massive game on Saturday, but I think it's weird to pretend that it's a referendum on whether they are any good. They obviously are. And if we spank them 5-0 it'll still be a significant challenge for us to go beyond them. Quote
L/H White Posted February 13 Posted February 13 tricky few days with reading to come on tuesday make or break time as good have we've looked last few weeks, it's only been for the first half and completely drop off in the 2nd 1-1 & win at reading Quote
Jol_BWFC Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I can see us winning both Lincoln and Reading or losing both. Lincoln is not only big from a points perspective, but from a confidence aspect. We have some very winnable games and if the gap was 3 points, Lincoln would feel the pressure. Quote

barrycowdrill Posted February 13 Posted February 13 We play better when the opposition is better. Man for man I’d take many more of our side than theirs. The issue in part and what has got them to the position they’re in is, as a unit they have been better and more consistent. But as I said before, if our lot knit a decent performance together over 80-90 mins and take the inevitable chances we will create then I’ve every confidence. it will be tight, there’ll be periods where we’re under it a little bit but it’s time for each one of them to stand up and show us and everyone else why the expectation is promotion. SS knows how to talk the games up when they matter and get a response from the players. So they will be chomping at the bit to prove a point Quote
meanderson93 Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Not been nervous like this for a game in a long time, don't know if I just have renewed vigor for the team because I actually like the man in charge or what, but I'm properly invested in this result. Win and I think Top 2 is well and truly on, pressure will be right on them not to slip up again. Anything else and it means another playoff run, but I do at least think we're much better suited to the challenge that brings now than we ever have been before. Almost mercifully, I'm at a wedding on Saturday so will likely only know the result after it happens, hopefully distract myself from the fact it's happening best I can! Quote
