I don't think he's got any choice really. 

He's done everything in his power to prevent their release - and now it's inevitable that they are going to get released he's jumped on board. 

So now he's going to 

a) not be implicated at all in any of the document and can happily flick the v sign to his doubters

or

b) be implicated - but claim it's all a hoax/fake news/democrat witch hunt. And also say 'why would I have called for their release if I thought I might be implicated' 

If it's b then people are really going to have to have a long hard think about whether they agree with his take and continue to back him.

I've said it previously, but the congress vote (which would have won bigly anyway) is only the first step.

Trump could still get it stopped by rallying senate to vote against it or simply not signing it if senate also passed the vote - although that wouldn't look good for him.

Instead - as someone pointed out earlier, start a shit load of investigations and claim the files can't be released whilst investigations are ongoing.
