It isn't just us.

At my lads level, every half decent kid gets snapped up by an academy.

The reach of them and size of them now is at saturation levels.

Even Fleetwood Town have scouts all over the North West.

The cream all end up at City, Liverpool and United without fail.

The rest don't make it and a handful get professional contracts.

The systems fucked and it's a complete money pit.

You can't blame Evatt or FV for that.

on this i certainly cannot blame Evatt as Traf said we have been doing it since the 1950s

Kids do not cost anything to coach, and have been sold the dream for 60 years or more.

I agree with all you have said, but  what is the point of having a academy if it is just a cash cow.

The B team  was supposed to pick up the best 18/19 year olds that have been released giving them a pathway to our first team but i am not seeing much of that either,  The Management team and FV have to shoulder some of the blame for that

Reputation matters and I expect we don't have a good one

It's difficult to turn that round without a huge cash injection

It's a point I've made before but I think the best thing we could do for our youth set-up would be to try and poach the coaches from the club down the road, especially as they now seem to be running a much cheaper operation

We simply aren't giving the young un's a chance, but he's more than willing to give others young ones a chance.

We've had loads of young ones on loan, and most haven't worked out,

That said we have one on the bench today from our youth set-up

Just posted on the other thread- your boy is now part of the first team squad.

Id disagree and say we've been pretty successful with young loan players. Bradley, traff, maghoma the shining lights.  But there are others. That scouting system can spot a player. Owen Beck was shite but he's in Blackburns first team now so they were right.

I trust the staff who see these lads day in day out in the B team. If they ain't ready they aint ready.

5 years ago our best remaining talent were all about 8 year olds who ended up saving the club

3? Of em are playing at a decent level

The rest are nowhere near our level - quite a few arent even pub level

Everything was fucked up

We started from less than nothing

Its been hard enough trying to progress the first team  year on year, never mind finding and being attractive to young talent

Anyway, id fuck the academy off

Id still not exoect us to be getting cast offs from nw prem clubs

Maybe if we do get promoted but til then, theyll generally get better offers

Oh, regan riley

Another one evatt was incapable of seeing was a world beater

Next stop, morrisons

Riley was one we had seen play and I thought he looked decent  then again I also thought nicky brookman looked class after his first game at burnden!    Am gonna blame evatt for this

Youth development is not the issue with Evatt. I would give him credit for the progress of Thomason when others did not see it.  It is very far from our biggest problem.

He was daft going to a prem club.

If he'd stayed and developed here, and worked his way into a lower league team, no one knows how it may have panned out.

I wonder if he ever looks at Thomason's career progression here and regrets his move

Probably not, but still

Not one of the sticks to beat him with really, from the disarray we'd fallen into it'd have taken some top Academy specialists, some major investment and many years to get us back to where we were even producing two or three that would fairly regularly feature in the squad in L1, never mind a couple of nuggets we might make a few million on.

Isn't he now at Radcliffe with that other useless cunt who @L/H White likes? Tom Walker.

He was supporting the script the other night.

Who said he wouldn't make it.

Maybe not Thomason, but I reckon he will have played over the "what if" many a time in his head.

Anyway, he's young enough to show what he can do and perhaps get a chance at a lower league club. Depends how much he wants it I suppose.

What happened to that Luke fella everyone wanted in

Think he’s just not very good. Didn’t even go out on loan

Still at the club, not named in the squad list submitted to the League despite us still having an empty slot, so he can only play Cup games.

Whether he's any good or not is a moot point, but surely if he's at the club, give him a fucking shirt number just in case. With a run of games, might not be much worse than back pass Cogley.

He must've been reading our posts 🙂

Good on the lad, did well v Fleetwood the other week, got himself involved straight away on Tuesday, hopefully keeps on growing and improving.

Matheson is a really odd one.

Notwithstanding that he may not be God's gift we had a spare shirt, no prospect of incoming, uses him in some cup games & performs adequately but leaves the shirt vacant 6 months.

But fathoming Evatt's mind has baffled better people than me.

*I'm exaggerating btw. There are few people in that category.

Matheson just isn’t good enough.

Call him John Smith, take away his worldie at Old Trafford and (bizarre) subsequent 7 figure move to Wolves, and he’s just a lad who we tried in the first team. On the ball he’s ok. But positionally and game awareness he’s way off.

Evatt and many other experienced coaches see him daily. If he was good enough he’d be in the squad.

Hope it works for him. His attitude seems spot on. Just doubt it’ll be with us.
