Call him John Smith, take away his worldie at Old Trafford and (bizarre) subsequent 7 figure move to Wolves, and he’s just a lad who we tried in the first team. On the ball he’s ok. But positionally and game awareness he’s way off.

Matheson is a B team player, not a squad player.

I have reservations about the B team for sure, but i don't find it remotely odd that he doesn't give a squad place to someone who isn't at the level needed. 

His choice to keep the spot available is a fair discussion, but i'm not in favour of handing it to someone who just can't play at that level.

Well known Big Sam only came to training on a Thursday and Friday, as he felt it helped up the tempo in time for matchday.

In terms of Evatt not being at training, I think there's some nuance here. My understanding is that he is there most days. However, while his coaches are taking training, he may be meeting performance analysts, scouts, etc. Remember, his job is to 'manage', not to run every little detail.

Where you may have a point is that if they're not training hard enough, he's employed the wrong people OR isn't instilling the right culture.

Fair enough but surely that screams a lot about the set up. They must get funding for these lads

In the pizza cup games I've seen Matheson play I thought that he did okay.  Certainly well enough to warrant a place in the squad seeing as there was one free.

He won't be registered until he turns 21 before the start of the season

He did do ok, but we’ve got, Cogley, Williams, Tutu, Schon and jones who can all playing wingback so he’s not going to displace them so no point in adding him to the squad.
