New Year Weight Loss

Played 5-a-side on Wednesday for first time in 7 months. My body is aching everywhere!

Did a 30-min boxing workout this morning at the gym with a PT (its free). Had 2 of us alternating with him between combinations and using the spin (watt) bike.

I was fucked and seeing stars at the end of the session.

  • 2 weeks later...

Did the Sefton Park 10k with Bi E this morning. Thankfully managed to avoid a defeat in a closely fought sprint finish.

Fair play to the big fella, he made it round without stopping.

51:04 for me. A tad disappointing as I know could've paced myself a bit quicker as I had plenty left in the tank.

Anyone fancying a 10k run though I'd thoroughly recommend this one. It's a real buzz,

That's so people knew I did it.

67:32 was my chip time....which will do for for a first go

Well done, a great effort for your first go. You'll be under the hour mark before you know it

  • 1 month later...

Bought a shite load of holiday clothes over the winter with the aim of them fitting by the time I go in a few weeks. Looked a lost cause a few months ago but managed to fit in the whole lot now. No better feeling, though I suppose the football season has a lot to answer for!

(Slightly annoying that it's all been in aid of getting back to the same weight as I was pre-holiday in July last year, but still got to be happy with losing 2 stone since New Year)

Just been up snowdon....miners track up and ranger path down. Decent. Tired but pleased I can now do it.

112kg now. Still a long way to go but enjoying it

Keep going pal. Be worth it in the end.

I'm back running a bit now. And 5-a-side. Not been able to do bootcamp or any serious weights for 6 months or more. Left elbow still fucked. Pissing me off. Was the year I was hoping to finally have a stab at this golfing malarkey.

1st run in 2 years before. Mile and a half 14 1/2 mins.

Question for the runners on here. How often and by how much should I look to increase distance? Aim is to get back upto 7/8 miles which I used to be able to run although never actually trained before for running was other sports that gave the fitness

Cheers

Rule of thumb is to increase distance by one mile, consolidate for a week then increase another mile. This gives your bones and ligaments time to strengthen, this is a slower process than "getting fitter".

I assume that given your Bolty type politics that you are a more mature gentleman so focus on getting the distance done and not the time, this will come down as your fitness improves.

Bolty type politics :-)

No I'm not of the same sort of age so am of an age where I can hopefully focus on times in due course. I would like to do a half marathon this year if possible for charity as it will give me focus to train.

Thanks for the advice. I shall try the 2.5 mile in a fortnight and take it from there

Cheers

That's brilliant for somebody in his early 50's mate

haha!!! Touché!

Managed a couple of 5.75km runs recently, 8.4km around Sale & Chorlton Water Parks on Saturday and another 5.75km run just now in the rain. Getting better and faster. Hoping to do 10km around the water parks this coming Saturday.

As for 5-a-side, I'm the oldest player by about 10 years. Fitness is getting back up there, but my finishing is dreadful!!

Always worth having a target to aim for. Especially if its got a charity relying on it.

another reminder to just eat better
