I'm 4 weeks given up. Cold turkey here.

I lasted 2 years cold turkey a long time back. Last attempt I went 9 months on an e-cig. Fucking nuts starting again after that long off them. Madness. But such is life.

aye, I've never not smoked for this long since I started when i was bout 14, 7 weeks today since last one

every now and again think about having one, just to see, but then realise there's no point

to go back to how it was before, even if just 2 or 3 a day seems nuts, hopefully it stays that way

guess that's another reason why i rate and champion champix

you carry on smoking for the first two weeks your on it then stop - during that time you find yourself enjoying and wanting one less and less till your realise you're just inhaling shite and it's doing nowt for you

To be fair though, picked up my second prescription on Thursday, haven't picked them up yet due to half term and being busy. Realised it's been a week. Not sure if I should start again with them or just carry on as is?

I hope that Champix works for anyone trying it.

10 years ago a mate of mine said they were making him depressed + he had no history of depression.

He took his own life eventually and the National papers were all over it - blaming Champix.

Easily done. I've done 6 months before. I really want out this time though.

Gave up smoking nearly 3 years ago using e-cigs, would rather do neither but it's lesser of two evils for now for me.

I tried cold turkey  many times before that, and realised how pathetically low my will power is.

Thought i'd miss the cigs but i don't...obviously still getting nicotine though which helps...but the smell of smoke & smokers knocks me sick now.  All it makes me think is fck me did i really go round smelling like that for 20 years !

Just picked up a courtesy car where the previous incumbent was clearly a smoker.

Anyone who chooses to smell like that is a fucking dirty cunt.

This reminds me of the old saying, "Giving up smoking is really easy. I've done it loads of times!"

Why would you crack after 2 years?

That said, a mate of mine did 17 years without. Went to a bar in Spain and a couple they sat with offered him one.

He turned round and said, "I don't, but I could murder one with a beer."

His wife said, "Don't you dare!"

Well, she dared him. He smoked it, realised he still enjoyed it and went out and bought 200.

And that's why I could never be one of these who have one cig on a Saturday with a beer.

Can't remember the reason. I admit it's fucking mad. Even successful people kill themselves sometimes, so I've given up trying to understand how other peoples' minds work.

Banning cigs in boozers was the finest thing Blair did.

Along with the push on drink driving laws I can't quite believe how late as a civilised society this came in.

It's madness to think it was perfectly normal less than 15 years ago.

The idea of sucking on an idiot whistle doesn't appeal to me in the slightest (I've got friends who swear by them). If I want to free from smoking I want to be free from all the things that it entails - smell, nicotine, the habitual need to put something in you mouth etc.

I've "given up" loads of times and tried cold turkey, patches, gum and those pills that that they brought out before champix. The only time I've had any any degree of success is if I've truly wanted to give up from a psychological point of view.

I think (hope) I'm currently in the right frame of mind again to have another serious attempt at giving up. I managed 18 months a few years ago and started up again because I was pissed and had just found out my nan had died.

For me, health has always been a secondary thing. I know it's bad for me, but I enjoy it, especially when I'm having a drink so I tend to put the health part to the back of my mind. It's the fact that it's £10+ a go these days and more recently I've been more interested in sitting there smoking myself to death rather than getting on with shit that is a. more important and b. needs doing.

Deep down I'll probably always be a smoker but for the time being I'm choosing not to be one (possibly a very Alan Carr way of looking at it I suppose)

Champix are ace. The dreams I had were amazing, tripping like fuck! Couldn't wait to go to bed. Shagged every female I had ever clapped eyes on.

Even your mum?

I was only ever a social smoker and just went cold turkey.  Can't stand the smell of it now.  I've had mates who have managed to kick the habit through the use of E-cigs, but they look so naff.

One of them is walking up to Everest base camp this year, she can't be vaping up there surely?

I get your point, they do look shit, but I don't mind looking naff. I'm 35 not 15.

My mates just done Everest base camp. He said you get out of breath simply packing and zipping up your rucksack because of lack of oxygen up there.

I certainly wouldn't be taking a smoke stick.

....Mind you it could come in handy :)

15000 pubs have shut since then

tony blair = massive twat on so many levels

Aye, millions of Britons started supping cheap supermarket ale at home in protest at the country's involvement in the invasion of Iraq.
