These are home made from Taylors bakery in Leigh but sold on to Yates & Greer's in the town centre. Was lucky today and managed to blag the last two left. So thick and warmed them in the oven, splattered all over with butter when they came out, potato cake heaven. Quote

Sweep Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 as ever, I await the input of @Spideron culinary matters 🙂 Generally I don't mind a potato cake, but it's another fairly dense basic food stuff that folk rave about, that are at best average (also black peas, maltloaf, Carrs pasties, lobby etc) Quote

Youri McAnespie Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 Butter pies are a relic from Paddy-roots Catholicism and no meat on Fridays. Anyone putting hash browns on a full English fry up is a bastard. They sell Greenhalgh's potato cakes at the corner shop, keep them on the counter for some strange reason, I'd wager there's more Covid viruses on them than the Chinese lab it was created in. Quote

Youri McAnespie Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 (edited) Salt and pepper surely? I used to eat crumpets on white sliced bread. I also used to eat pizza and coleslaw on bread... With chilli sauce. I was a peasant. I was working as a chef at one period of this peasantry. Chefs eat shite. Rustler burgers, pot noodles, Space Raider butties, Fray Bentos pies... Dimron Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I make potato cakes from the left overs after a Sunday Roast... mashed up roasties, parsnips (squash too last time) all pulped up with chopped carrot and greens and bound together with beaten egg. Add some Cayenne and Paprika for an extra kick. Flatten into cakes about 2 to 3 inches diameter brush on some more egg and fry for 3-4 mins. We always make sure we have plenty left overs Quote
