Hmm, I think they do. But there is an opponent doing their bit to prevent it working of course, and consistency of quality of delivery also plays a part. Not easy to make them work all the time. Having said that, we left him totally unmarked, which didn’t help. Our corners inevitably don’t make it past their first man, so we never have a chance. Loads of blocking, holding and a handball in there to boot Generally, I think we're pretty good at set-pieces in terms of chances created from first and second contacts and also good at defending them. We’ve already mentioned the Morais success rate but without the quality of the cross neither Wheats nor Beevers would have got anywhere near the number they did. Probably the best exponent of all was Becks whose speared in crosses were sublime and all Uniteds strikers needed to do was get a head on them, which they did regularly. Members DazBob Posted April 10 Members Share Posted April 10 There's no doubt that Santos is a huge player for us, in that he dictates how we play and how far up the pitch we defend. Also, on his day he probably is the best defender in this league. However, the stats above prove we can more than live without him. Maybe his absence gives the others around him chance to have more influence on the game.
