What's that all about anyway? Because of their animal welfare laws. Catching a fish is deemed to be cruel, so catch and release is a no no. However it is legal to catch fish to eat- so you kill them. For stocking reasons though, they don't want their waters draining, so you can release some back, but only if you kill some. Seems a bit bizarre, but fair enough. Quote
