A 15th placed finish, their lowest since being relegated to the old Division 2 in 1974 A stadium that is essentially crumbling having been neglected for many years. Finances in a mess Several reports this week that their support abroad (especially in Asia) is hemorrhaging Beaten by a Spurs side who are even more dreadful than they are in a European final. Feel free to add to the above list. There must be plenty of other elements of their decline to crow about. We've got our own woes as have most clubs. On this quiet Saturday with no footy until tonight and very little other sport of note it's worth reflecting just what depths these arrogant cunts have plumbed. What a pleasure it is to see their cretinous support base having to keep its head down and feel what it's really like to be a football fan. The only downside is that we were in the Prem in the wrong decade. I rather suspect we'd have chalked up several memorable wins home and away if our spell had been 10 years on from the one we had.

I’m not too sure. I saw us get a few wins (including the back-to-back away wins) and draws, when Man Utd were the absolute top dogs in the noughties. One thing that struck me was the respect Ferguson had for what we and, especially, Big Sam were achieving. Contrast this with the reaction and behaviour of Arsene Wenger, as we regularly disrupted his Arsenal. These contrasting reactions to Bolton’s performance changed my view of Ferguson somewhat and, for me, indicated why he was a great manager and Wenger was … well an arse!

Just give up on them. I didn’t vote for years as I disliked both. Let’s be honest the singular vote isn’t worth shit. I only really voted last the way I have the last few times as I disliked both the other party far more. I still find it odd people ‘support’ parties and have allegiances. Should simply be who you think is best for you and yours for the next 5 years.

I love the whinge about the extra stress on players having to do those exhibition games other side of the world. It seems it got the club an extra £10M. Well if the useless cunts had finished top of the bottom half of the table instead of 15th they'd have got an extra £12M in "prize" money, so maybe the trip wouldn't have been needed (but would happen anyway). Hated them with a passion in the sixties seventies & eighties & ok the nineties & weirdly not quite as much when we actually played them in the Prem. Their demise has coincided with me becoming an owd Cnut , so I am more indifferent than I was but still get a buzz every time they get turned over. City fans (I only know a couple of long suffering types) have become pretenders to their plastic fan throne , though I still can’t get too bothered about them .Nice when they fuck it up but not going to compete with the rags in the contempt stakes. One observation about our youth .I used to take my grandson playing under nines footy , & as is par their personal footy strips were all Liverpool , City , Arsenal etc. My grandson asked me to take him to the Wanderers about three years ago quite surprised me (in a good way) Anyway it turns out all the lads he played footy with in the under nines ALL had season tickets for BWFC. Heartwarming stuff ! He just laughs at the rags.

Obviously I’d love my Dad to be still alive (sadly at 105 it would be wishful thinking) but it’s stuff like this that rings so many bells about stuff he told me By 1945 he’d been transferred from Gib to N Africa and as the war came to an end he got more leave home. If it was ‘long’ leave of a week or so he came back to Bolton, if it was ‘short’ leave he went to London. Remember him saying that in 45/46 he spent a lot of leave in London and saw us playing at a few grounds. Would love to show him this and ask if he was there. My happy place says he was there 😀

I don't particularly hate United, but I used to hate the fact that every cup they won added another few hundred thousand to their "fanbase" in the UK and worldwide, who effectively are lost to the game because 99.9% of them will never attend football matches regularly, they are TV/online fans of the game only. The significance of them continuing to be crap is played out for me by the fact that my 6 year old grandson is a football obsessive (he'll watch any game on TV). His Mum is a Bolton S/T holder, his Dad is a Man U fan that goes a couple of times a season (not knocking him, great bloke). My grandson comes to most Bolton games and currently has no reason to be swayed towards Man U, because he doesn't see them winning when his Dad puts them on TV. If for arguments sake we are losing every week and United are successful, its only going to go one way. And I bet that scenario is played out up and down the country both for Bolton/United households and AN Other FC/United households. The worse United are the better it is for Bolton and for every club, the less fans they have the more the support is shared around, and when they support other clubs they can actually attend games.

I was at that game but incredibly young. I just recall seeing the United fans on the Manny Road half of the Embankment which was usually for home fans and the BWFC fans on the away bit next to the Burnden Paddock. Think it was quite a foggy night and unless anyone tells me different there was (unusually) no trouble. Which cannot have been said about our previous game v them in 74/5 (Div 2) or the following season in 79/80. From what everyone has said 3-0 didn't flatter us and Worthy took the piss out of Gordon McQueen all night.

It has always been an odd rivalry. If you can even call it that with one side not giving a shite about the other? Do they even know who we are anymore? I despised them in my youth. But these days I’m often happier seeing City losing than United. Don’t get me wrong, it has been a nice demise to see, & was lovely watching Spurs beat them, but I think many of us just don’t care as much as we used to. Definitely grown more respect for Fergie since he’s retired, having had more time to hear his story & achievements.

I think the purple nose comment rather disrespectful, he's been a great manager , always respectful to the wanderers, turned up a nat's funeral , a mate of big Sam , does a lot of charitable work and a people person . You have to admit too that his team's played good football. To be honest I not that bothered about United or any other football team . All I care about is the wanderers. Wasn't a regular at PNE over the last two seasons and PNE were poor last season. He was released and at 27 yrs old was looking for a 3 if not 4 year deal somewhere. I'm guessing we felt the total cost of the deal wasn't worth it for yet another under 5'10" midfielder.

I think some possible rewriting of facts with Schon. He was injured for a large part of the end of the season, and wasn't really fit enough to play much under SS. He was also one of our more consistent players under IE (accepted it was a low bar). I don't see him going anywhere (or Tutu), and think he'll play a role next season.

I reckon Schon will turn out to be a diamond.

Tip top, mate. Cut the drinking down to one day a week, started eating healthily and doing about 90 mins/6 miles fairly brisk walking (2 x 45 mins). Wife's away in Oz, so it's just me the dogs and some peace. Work is steady but not record breaking and I've lost 26lbs in 6 weeks.
