I was Speaking about this not long back with some of the older lads, they put it down to trust, Which around the time they served, 80s and 90s you could understand. Northern ireland was the main conflict and was obviously a big threat at the time, the Falklands was an invasion on sovereign land and the Gulf war seemed legitimate so to speak. When I was in it was pretty much the same, Ireland was still on, Iraq and Afghanistan was this mass invasion to get rid of bad guys and get rid of WOMD and numerous peace keeping missions everything seemed to be for a reason. Then the truth started to come out, lads and lasses starts to leave because of the bull shit wars and conflicts and government lies, something they were never privy to. I can’t speak for the lads serving now, as all the lads I know will be in an office now just waiting for their pension. I don’t know where I’m going with this answer 😆 but I guess for the young lads and lasses serving now it’s just a job, more will have a better understanding of conflicts and how the world is thanks to MSM, social media, the internet etc and for that reason have more of an opinion So my final answer is it’s just a job….4 likes

It should be 3rd place go straight to the final, 5th play 6th and the winner plays 4th. The winner of that play 3rd in the final so teams are incentivised to finish higher.3 likes

Or here’s a thought Since they’ve failed to be granted asylum, they get a plane ticket back and absolutely fuck all else?3 likes

They're ripping people off! Worked hard, paid in but can't take out. Now they have to pay even more tax after retirement. Oldies having to keep Wayne and Waynetta in chocolate, illegals in HMOs, and all manner of non-jobs in the public sector. Chip on the shoulder attitudes again. The road to ruin.2 likes

40k is 3.5 years state pension for someone working and paying taxes for 50 years… housing family of asylum seekers for 1 year is 158k… that’s 13 years of state pension for someone working 50 years…. This country is fucked.2 likes

Mcatee and ACD out running today. Macca back with the squad next week ACD a few more weeks behind. But could be back earlier than expected which is great news2 likes

It's not for me, but I have no problem with the fans celebrating. It was more the players. I'd hope Schumacher reminds them they've won nothing and there's a job still to be done.2 likes

I’m not saying they should, no. I was just pointing out that the system isn’t based on getting out what you put in. I’d rather the government had the balls to stop the triple lock now and also tell everyone that is 18 (or younger) that when they retire there will be no state pension - so they have to put into their own private pension. It needs to be backed up by stronger workplace pensions and (for those more clever than me) working out how you support the self employed. In 40 years time, with declining birth rates and AI, there will be insufficient workers paying tax to support the generations that will be living longer. The current pension system is fucked.1 like

See, Mick's comment is one of apparent appeasement and ignorance of the forces. They are privately expressing their frustrations at not being allowed to do precisely what they train to do daily. It is their job, and they want to do it. No one wants to send guys out to fight unnecessarily, but it is their job to fight if asked. I'd invest in combustible memorabilia to drape on the coffins of Islamists though. Or better still, munitions to put them there.1 like

The thing that makes these very Islamists so dangerous. I've no time for Trump at all, but try to look at things that are going on over there objectively. In this instance though, Trump isn't the issue per se. Iran is, and whether folk agree with the war or not, it is where we are, and our top brass have completely failed in their duty to protect our nation and its interests. Cyprus, Bahrain, UAE etc have all been very critical, and understandably so. Unfathomable decisions.1 like

Aye, because we need more trains blown up near Madrid, more Bataclans, more beheadings of British military personnel on the streets of London and more London Bridge type knife attacks. Iran should have been left completely alone. FFS.1 like

Aye. It wasn't all that long ago (depending on your age) that the thought of a team finishing 6th could go up was preposterous. I do think, however, if so many more teams are involved, there should be a big advantage for the team that finished third (and maybe fourth). It does tickle me when people say why change something that isn't broken ... When the playoffs only came into play less than 40 years ago.1 like

I wouldn't disagree mate. The challenge is, how do you unfuck it? Like the bloke says in the interview, this is a pilot, aimed at people who are already in the country, and it's been shown to work elsewhere (Denmark). It sounds galling (because it is) but not doing anything is even more galling (in my opinion). We're going to have to take some unpalatable decisions eventually. Otherwise we're just sticking with the status quo of housing the backlog of people in hotels and/or council accommodation. I know it's been mentioned that we could leave the ECHR and bypass the appeals process. But that would have huge implications - most notably for the Good Friday Agreement. So given that - I'd rather be giving an unsuccessful family £40,000 than paying triple or quadruple that to house that same family in the UK while each year. Especially while we've got housing problems of our own. BTW - this isn't necessarily aimed at you mate - but it costs about £2000 to £6000 to cross the channel on a small boat. Plus whatever is cost to get you from home to Calais. Plus the risk you take too. I think we pilot it - see if it works - and if it does then expand on it - along with a range of other methods.1 like

I do. Business planning will be impossible for a mid table team. Someone like Cardiff and Lincoln can pretty much have their squad assessed, targets identified and budgets set. A play off team in the format now has a more difficult time, but with an idea that much of the squad will likely be taken forward. A mid table team, with no thoughts of going up, suddenly finding themselves nipping in last minute may have to have a plan b that looks at replacing most of its squad to have the slightest chance. If it wasn't going to be much different, then why not extend it further? Just ends up making a mockery of the league set up we currently have.1 like
-
The whole premise of this is leading to fewer "dead rubbers" during the regular season but if you expand the play offs it also becomes harder to drop out of them. Not sure they'll get the reduction in meaningless games expected when 2 or 3 of the play offs placed teams start resting players if they're secure. Home advantage is less of a motivational tool than ending your season1 like

This is what I was looking for and didn't spot in the articles as I was thinking to myself "how will they accommodate another game and still have the may bank holiday weekend for the final?" So an extra midweek game during winter to finish the week earlier - I'm not on board with that.1 like

Was that the game Thommo got sent off for actually missing Blackburn full back Kenny ? with a sliding tackle . I was actually in the Blackburn paddock when Thommo nearly joined us due to momentum. Shearer & Sutton we’re in the refs ear the whole game & he certainly accommodated them , just remembering how spineless the refs were in the Prem back then.1 like

Personally I think any kind of financial incentive being given to folk who shouldn’t be here in the first place is outrageous. Suppose that’s far right Nazi bigot in me 😄1 like

Exactly the same debate that was being had nearly 40 years ago. Plenty of those disagreeing at the time don’t mind now. New champions league format, winter World Cup. Of course the motives behind it are money related and dubious, but these changes often aren’t as bad as what some folk anticipate and sometimes turn out to be ok.1 like

Was wondering if that was him. The famous cup final celebration in that ace yellow kit. I spent way too much time trying to find footage this morning and fell in a proper hole in my kitchen, so much so I was late into town and another window cleaner remarked had I had a lie in1 like

Trying to echo Christian nationalism in the US. Won’t work here - we’re far too cynical (I hope). Mind you, potentially so dangerous - several reports about speeches US generals are giving to combat troops in Iran about waging Armageddon in Iran so that Jesus will come down from heaven. Or something like that .1 like

It was funny watching that Big Sam doc that I don't recall any thought of a pitch invasion when we stayed up against Boro. Now we've had three in recent memory celebrating far lesser achievements. I do think it's a harmless bit of a fun though. And really had there been no pitch invasion we'd still have got bounced by Oxford, so at least people got some enjoyment out of that playoff run.1 like

Poor show from us this. Let’s be honest we all knew it was going to kick off sooner rather than later so you would have thought we would have had some assets not to far away, but no HMS Dragon is now not due to sail until next week.1 like

Which they aren't being allowed to do. None of them are "canon fodder" neither. We don't treat our servicemen that way. Anyone that joins nevertheless understands that there may be times when they have to fight. This isn't about kissing Trump's arse, but about defending nations around Iran, its people, as well as our own. Too many looking at it through Trump hate spectacles, which whilst understandable, doesn't reveal the full picture.1 like

Whilst ignoring the best interests of his nation? Way behind on every decision. Even if he didn't want to commit to offensive action, he should have allowed bases to be used. Nothing to do with being America's poodle, but doing what's right by us, the wider area, and Iran's people who want the regime gone. Akrotiri should have been better protected. Been thinking about sending a naval boat, which may now be on its way. Sovereign territory has been attacked, and he still won't do anything. Meanwhile, naval personnel in Portsmouth are scathing in off the record comments. That's after already pissing off special forces, and senior figures all over for not upping spending quick enough. He has the backbone of a jelly fish, and is pandering to his faltering base and backbenchers. Even Qatar now has its F15s up and in action, defending their territory and attacking Iranian military sites. Interestingly, flight radar has the fewest planes I've even seen over the whole region. Nothing over Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Iran itself. Apart from the odd tanker or fighter. Looks like Iran is getting more of a pummelling.1 like

Why is it? That terrorism is here, on our streets. In various guises. Even if it is felt we've haven't can't offer much in terms of offensive effort, then having naval cover as protection should be the minimum. That terrorism has seen many thousands killed internally. That terrorism is and has been missiles capable of striking Europe, and the will to use them. What on earth is weird about wanting to stop that, and protect others and ourselves? Anything else is fingers in the ears indifference at best, and appeasement at worst.1 like
