  1. Anyway. Back to mental health, etc and away from Friday Night Fight Club Said it before on here, even though I started this thread, I’ve never suffered any mental health issues myself. Never get anxious, never feel the black dog hanging over me, I’m one of the lucky ones Two weeks ago today I woke at 2am with the most severe pains below my rib cage and I was in agony. How the fuck I got through that Friday I don’t know. Saturday morning was just as bad. Anyway, via 111 I was admitted to Royal Oldham with what turned out to be 5 gallstones and a severe gallbladder infection. Put on the urgent pathway, operated on and kept in til last Friday. Today finally saw all the staples taken out and the drain removed and the blood test finally confirmed that the infection had gone But here’s the rub. It’s really clobbered me. In my 62 years on this earth I’d never spent one single night in hospital. I was born at home so wasn’t even in as a baby. I’m indestructible. I’ve broken a number of bones mountain biking but it's been hey-ho strap me up and send me home. I’ve come home unable to do anything but sit and watch TV and do frigging jigsaws. All of a sudden I feel vulnerable. Every follow-up appointment I’ve been to I’ve had the various medics do the classic sucking air through their teeth and saying just how much trouble I was actually in. It’s really odd when life gives you a really big smack in the face. Apparently I’ve become quite introverted and quiet and far less of an annoying cunt and I don’t like it. For the first time in my life I feel that summat’s not right with me. My “couldn’t give a shit” attitude has gone I’m banned from flying anywhere for 12 weeks, signed off from work for another week, am only allowed to drive short distances, and can only sit here and vegitate. Social interactions have gone to virtually zero. I’m climbing the fucking walls Anyway. Lessons learned. We are not indestructible. Don’t ignore severe pain. If I had done I would undoubtedly have gone into sepsis as my gallbladder was on the point of “bursting”. The NHS is ace. Reach out if you need help. Vent when you need to

  2. The world would be a far better and happier place without social media. It's turned some what used to be sound folk into hate riddled crackpots.

  6. some also underate out players given JDC was in the L1 team of the season (same year as Sheehan) am sure dalby would get in on current form but wasn't long ago there was a thread about what he actually brings to the team anyway I couldn't name an english XI from non bolton players in this league and don't pay any attention to any one who can that said it's not like any of our players, english or otherwise, have had the type of the season that would get them into team of the season, even though we're 3rd and could get promoted - not one consistent performer - ACD at a push but even he went well off the boil before getting injured

  7. Aye we have a mixture of over evaluating our players and over analysing our performances. In reality Blackpool spent more than us last summer and on paper I'd have had Ennis and that Wigan lad over Dalby and Kenny any day of the week. Nobody watches Bradford or Stockport. Their fans are as equally dismayed at their stuttering form. Lincoln have just nailed whatever they're doing. Same as Plymouth did the other. Sometimes you just hit jackpot and ride the crest of a wave. They're not a juggernaut, just a well oiled machine who are having the season of their lives.

  8. I've been saying this a while. We as fans can't possibly know how all the players at other clubs are performing like (apart from Wanderlust of course). I'm sure our coaches and back room team will know but it's not like we can go out and buy them all. We did try it with Erahon (and yes I know he's a Scotcher) who was supposedly Lincoln's best player and look how that's turned out. I'm not saying he's shit or anything but Lincoln had clearly got plenty of decent backup or made signings that improved them.

  9. Feels pertinent this after reading the last couple pages of this thread. Social media and the bollocks spread on there is the scourge of society as far as I can tell.

  11. Agree 100% on social media I try to avoid it and getting out about socialising is good for your mental health, also I prefer going into the office rather than working from home, in my job used to meet new people all the time in this new age it’s all done by emails…. Folk don’t even talk on the phone it’s absolutely shite.

  12. Can't blame the weather particularly- its always been mixed. Whilst the rest is true, I'm convinced that social media, and the consequent lack of normal socialisation plays a huge part. Get off phones etc, get out and socialise.

  18. My wife had gall bladder issues that started with rumbling discomfort and ended up with an ambulance job to Blackpool Victoria. Operation, week in there and a good number of weeks of easing herself back to reasonable health. Tough to see and try to help her with. She's a fair bit better now but has made some long term diet and lifestyle changes to help manage the impact of not having a gall bladder anymore Take it steady and look after yourself over the coming weeks and months, boring but it'll be worth it 👍

  20. It's no wonder there's a Mental Health epidemic when even grown adults swallow every bit of shite they hear/read on social media, and share it without even checking if it's true. "Woke" only exists in the minds of those who are "anti-woke".

  22. So if you read it why are you arguing watching news round & thunder cats after school is remotely the same as what kids are being exposed to now ? The guidance clearly says developments in this tech has caused more harm. Youtube kids is considered social media. And many of its videos & AI slops are designed to be addictive and can cause cognitive harm. Many parents think it’s safe. Some people also watched too much TV 30/40 years ago. I’m not saying it was a golden age But we socialised more, played on the streets more and weren’t as screens focused. And there were less problems in schools with focus & attention & kids mental health. Not sure what point you’re trying to make ?

  25. Would help if you read the guidance as it makes it clear that not all screen time is the same. Cartoons often used to be low stimulation 30 years ago and you'd often watch stuff socially as a family or play video games together. Many video games still involve problem solving and creative skills. TV shows are great - as are many video games played in moderation. All this stuff has its place. It's social media platforms designed to be addictive... AI slop... and massively overstimulating cartoons. It's all designed to hook young people in through dopamine reward and does very little to promote any cognitive thinking or development. Children aren't capable of saying no or knowing when to stop. Like me and you having a row This guidance comes from very clear evidence that giving under two's ipads every day is causing widespread harm - as is social media and AI slop on Youtube. Parents letting their kids watch a specific show or watching stuff with them have nothing to worry about. Behaviour in schools and the ability of kids to focus has been hugely impacted. It's a worry and this guidance is long overdue. Next step is to make some of it law.

  26. So would I, but I’m not sure it’s been the case much since. Outfield - could you say Sarce? Gary O’Neil and Karl Henry are the two that come to mind first but I’m sure there are some post that. Lowe, MJ Williams possibly

  27. Nope that'll be you falling for absolute nonsense. "Parents have reached out to us with concerns the school is allowing kids to be furries, swishing their tails in corridors. Meanwhile other children are put in isolation for minor uniform breaches, while allegedly furries are meowing down corridors with tails.." You're told that's absolute bullshit and your response is to start a debate about the size of the tails 🤣

  28. Can you show me proof where school leaders have been punishing children for uniform breaches, whilst allowing another (who identifies as a cat) to walk the corridors freely with a big giant swishy tail? Because that is the story that you shared. Which I think most have suspected is pure fabricated nonsense. And yes this weird furry subculture is a thing. But it's not that different to emo's or goths or adults going to a comic fair and dressing up. It certainly isn't evident of some 'woke agenda' being rammed down our throats. I really thought you'd be capable of a better attempt at giving an example.

I get down when I spend to much time on line... it really isn't as bad as made out on social media platforms, first bit of advice is go for a proper walk at least thrèe times a week and enjoy our country. I am fortunate in having hobbies such as old cars where I have to interact with equally dodgy old cunts to stay on the road. Fuckwoke

  31. I don't think he could have found a better post for proving how pathetically gullible these people are. Spending your day worrying about a fantasy agenda. So far today on here we've had 'countries are changing their names to more woke versions' and furries are taking over primary school corridors. Fucking gullible nonsense. A similar story came out about litter trays in another school and turned out to be nonsense.

  41. I don’t think it was cultish. For me it was evidence based progress. And like Cheese alludes to that last 6 months, while I wouldn’t disregard it, (as it certainly highlights his weaknesses and faults), it was in contrast to the what had gone on previously. And on occasions like this I always go back to @Horwich‘s point. All managers are either great or shit - mostly shit because they pretty much all fail at some point. I would turn this argument on its head. In the modern day now it’s more cultish to irrationally flip opinion, be critical and claim to know all the answers a manager doesn’t. Pep and Arteta go from great to shit game to game at the moment! And they are currently the best two around. Not much hope for the rest! Great one week, shit the next. And as soon as there’s a longer period of shitness all the other blips previously get lumbered in to provide “evidence” that “he has to go”. We had a poll on here in January to get rid of Schumacher. In this crazy world he’s one poor result away from being questioned and lambasted again. Fortunately it looks like our owners value longevity, relationship-building and sustainability above the irrational short-term ism that exists elsewhere in the game. That said, they’ve made mistakes (they showed too much faith, loyalty, belief and time in Evatt), but I think they’ll learn from that.

  42. Exactly. Its too easy to say "these are L1 footballers, mistakes happen" or "its not SS's fault the keeper passes it like that". Yes it is SSs fault, I'm repeating myself but I've seen a lot worse keepers than Bonham in the last 45 years, playing at a lower standard, and they haven't made that "mistake" until it became a thing with Trafford/IE. Who coincidentally also ballsed up for City exactly the same, so let's not hide behind its only L1 (not picking on Trafford, loads do it in the Prem). I don't see that mistake at Daisy Hill or Tempest, because the manager doesn't want them to take that risk. Its a tactic, its not a mistake.
