Haha

Though more shocking is Tomo not being a stand out

Amazing, its almost as big a blind spot as brexit

George was great. He may have a rep for getting booked, but he is also one of the most fouled players in the league - and that's because of his relentless ratting about in the middle which is just what we need. Would have been up there however he tried a couple of those looping first time passes - which can be brilliant - that he didn't connect with properly last night and made him look daft. Superb performance otherwise.

Now that I've calmed down and sobered up after that long overdue outstanding performance I'm wondering whether that was an Evatt tactical change or just a tweak?

Coleman was involved in the passing around at the back far less than in recent games - probably a tweak just to minimise the chance of errors, but tactical inasmuch that teams have learnt our old routine off by heart.

Dribbling - haven't seen so much close control skill to beat a man for ages - especially Paris, JDB and Collins - they were obviously given permission to use their talents to the full in advanced areas and it paralysed Oxford when we broke through their lines time and time again. Tactical change for me.

"Concertina" passing from the back. A real mix of playing it wide or through the middle, plus the occasional long ball for good measure. Everything Oxford had planned for went out the window. Definitely tactical.

JDB/Collins partnership. Enforced I know, but I was massively impressed by their workrate (especially JDB at his age) which matched the workrate we'd expect from Dion and Vic. However they held it up better than Dion and Vic so on last night's performance I actually think we've stumbled across a better front two. Technically a tweak but it was the only sensible option.

Free role given to all the midfielders. They were all over the place in a good way, swapping sides, switching passes inside and out - must have confused the shit out of Oxford compared to the more rigid positioning we've had over recent games. Tactical.

Overall it seems like Evatt has dropped some of the "processes" rather than added new ones - basically "let them off the leash" and backed their ability. And it was a fucking joy to watch.

I've bitched about teams having worked us out and planned accordingly for weeks now, but last night's performance has opened a right can of worms for them going forward as long as we stick with it.

Hope we haven't showed our hand too early for Derby - and exhausted the players so they can't reproduce that outstanding workrate again on Saturday - but last night was the shot in the arm we needed - and were probably owed - but whatever happens, the excitement is back.

You say that but the chances are they prepared for the tentative crap we've been serving up for ages now, as opposed to the free-flowing off the leash energetic performance we delivered last night and it blew them away.

Game plan gone after 5 minutes.

If we played like that for the last 10 games, no team would have looked good and we'd be romping the league.

Having watched the game back, I'm even more impressed by our performance.

Tactically, I think we found a real answer to teams who remotely wish to press us. We dominated the ball with our usual play, however we played accurate balls in behind their press to our wide players, hence the 2nd goal.

It's not a plan B per say, but it's just a way to punish their press.

Individually, I cannot believe there's even any criticism of Maghoma, he's been our most creative player for weeks now. The midfield 3 I feel are perfectly balanced and compliment each other.

The amount of times that they tried to break through our midfield and either Thommo, Sheehan or Maghoma covered and won the ball back.

Also special mention to Bod, he didn't get on the scoresheet, but his link up play is exceptional and regardless of who we have out atm, I believe he's our best player by some distance at bringing others into the game.

Him dropping deeper and linking up the attacks, he's got very quick feet for a big man.

Overall, the team looks balanced, but obviously the big test is Saturday.

I don't have any doubt in my mind, that if Paul Warnes Derby play at their very best level and we play at ours, we would beat them.

Let's believe but be switched on. Pride Park has been a place of misery for us over recent years but it's time to change that.Ā

They really were shite. Didnā€™t really press but also didnā€™t sit and drop deep - they also didnā€™t man mark Sheehan out of the game. If you get 2 out of 3 of those right against us then we tend to be fucked, donā€™t do any and weā€™ll batter you (i.e last night)

Could start with having a half decent PA system and play some angry intimidating sounds to pump the crowd up a bit eh??

And not have a blow up bath as half time entertainment.

While Oxford were poor, it's great to be praising our own performance. Comfortably our best performance of the season as we controlled the whole game.

Sheehan and Paris playing like would terrorise most midfields in this division.

2 intelligent players up top linking up well too, who'd have thought that possible. Bod missed a lot of last season and didn't play loads early on this season, it was always going to take time with him. It would be a great time for him to find form and stay fit for 2 months.

More of the same on Saturday please

Firstly, just to agree with everyone else, what a performance, the best of the season by a mile.Ā  Just a thoroughly enjoyable evening watching us rip a team apart.Ā  Bod - masterclass in running the line, a joy to watch, agree with your comment on their link up play.Ā  Although personally I thought Collins was a bit wasteful at times.Ā  There were a lot of frustrating miscontrols and cheap giveaways and that strange miss in the 2nd half when he lacked conviction, but he has so much potential because he's 2 footed, intelligent and has vision and class.

Re your comment on Bod staying fit - a bit odd to say, when he's virtually the only player that's been fit for the vast majority of the season.Ā  He's one of the very few mainstays of the squad (fingers crossed/touch wood etc).Ā  He's played well most of the season when called upon, certainly as consistent as most other players in the squad.Ā  Its just he's never had a run of games where he's allowed to have an off day or 2 and retain his place, unlike many others.Ā  Anyway, what a night, he's to another one on Saturday.Ā Ā

19 odd thousand on a cold Tues night for a televised game is a decent crowd.

The bloke behind me was a knob. 'Lino - your wife hates you, you Geordie cunt!' was one of his witty offerings. in front of a group of young lads (cubs group or summat).Ā

I agree with most of your points, but it wasn't 19k and it wasn't cold.Ā  It was a team going for 2nd place in March playing superb, in front of a very disappointing turn out.Ā  Looking at highlights etc it looks even more sparse than I thought at the time.Ā  Sorry if that's a negative, but making the turn out appear to be a positive is very wide of the mark.Ā  About 12k home fans?Ā  And about half of them had gone well before the end of a superb entertaining game, god knows how many would have been left if we'd been 2 down after 80 minutes.

A bit tongue in cheek aimed at people calling him a cripple and not a starter. I love Bod, said a few times, he's the best striker at the club as far as i'm concerned.

I don't live in Oxford any longer but still in Oxfordshire and work with a good few OUFC fans. They are very, very downbeat and after this result out to get the manager Des Buckingham. They can't believe how much worse they've got since Liam Manning left, with pretty much exactly the same squad. As such we should celebrate the fabulous win but just be a bit cautious. They are at a low ebb and were very vulnerable. To avoid the "flat-track bully" accusation we need to replicate at Derby and come away with the result. If we do that- what a shot in the arm that would be!Ā
