Maybe not but we more than often do so I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet against these. It doesn’t seem to matter how Schu configures the defence we still have this annoying habit of giving sloppy goals away. Thankfully we seem to be able to make up at the other end but it would be nice not to have to come from behind again. Quote

I'm sure that was my first ever game at the Reebok and i was surrounded by scousers. Quote
Wanderlust Posted March 15 Posted March 15 The more I think about it, the more I reckon that the team we put out against Birmingham would be the best option against Stockport. I know that means benching Sheehan and shuffling the back 3 unless GJ is available but our shape and attacking potential was streets ahead of the two games since. Maybe a lot of that was down to the performance on the day - I don’t know as I’m not the manager and don’t get to see the players every day but I just feel that our wide pitch would suit that line up better if everyone is up for it. And if this game can’t motivate them to put in a huge performance nothing will. Quote
bolty58 Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Any win. Any - even if it's winning ugly. Had my Huddersfield mate on the blower telling me that our match is a nailed on draw. Looking to enjoy pointing out the error of his ways when he arrives in his vintage Alfa on Wednesday to buy me the beers he owes me for our win at their place. 1-0 will do for me today. Quote

bolton va va Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I won't try & predict the team, we all know there'll be changes. It'll be horses for courses & full use of the squad & i'm happy with that. 4-0 @75/1, & 4-1 @60/1, & Toal to score anytime @10/1. Like printing money. Quote

His strength is evident when he is given time on the ball and doesn’t have to defend but in this league even the poorer opposition negate him for long periods and the better opposition have the audacity to attack us which leaves us a defender short. Much as I admire Sheehan, he’s a luxury at times but clearly you are so far up his arse you can’t see that. Stockport are unfortunately a team that will attack us and make life difficult for Sheehan in particular. See Stockport 5 BWFC 0. And BWFC 3 Birmingham 1. Horses for courses. barrycowdrill Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) He seems the first man you look to dig out to be fair. and if his defensive frailties are the issue then taking him out the team isn’t the solution. It’s finding someone to play alongside him to do that work. because I guarantee you now, and it’s ok you using isolated games as examples to support your claim, but out of 10 games we’d win more with him than we would without him. Thing is, I think he should play the majority of games in this league. I just think there are certain games which might not suit him as much as others. When he’s playing well he’s great - he does have the occasional stinker but for the most part he’s good, especially when he plays at a higher tempo. But his performance given his role, is more susceptible to being determined by the opposition if they’re decent. Randall is similar. It’s a distinction that Gonzo can’t grasp and chooses to interpret as a vendetta against Sheehan, which it isn’t. I only wondered about the line up for this particular game because Schuey seems far more open to switching selection and formation than IE ever was, and am looking forward to seeing what he goes for today.
