Like one or two of SS's signings, this level might be spot on for him Absolutely. If he helps us get up, and we help him develop, that's a win for all parties. As the goal showed, if he can go both ways and pose a threat either side, he will be really useful for us, and much harder to keep out of the game. Quote

Proved he was more than just some schmuck sitting in front of the back 3 accepting suicide balls. Miles better than Morley. I think that's forgetting how good Morley's been since he came back, as good as Sheehan was today. They are both good players, capable of 8 out of 10 games but also 5 or 6 sometimes, especially away from home. Stockport away is very different to most home games. Quote

Couldn't believe ACD had come to us in L1. Mate's lad was at Arsenal Academy before the pandemic 3 years above ACD. He told me that the Arsenal Academy coaches had picked ACD as one of the 3 in the Academy at that time who would play at prem level. A few years ago and maybe he hasn't grown as expected, but he turned down a contract at Arsenal to go to Brighton. Whatever, hope he takes this league by storm. Quote
Zog1 Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 (edited) Like SS said, when he was at Plymouth, 3 of his 4 strikers got 10 goals each. This isn't about stand out performances its about a team performance and winning! Bye bye Ego ball. Edited August 9, 2025 by Zog1 Quote

That's a great attribute, aside from his height, running power and good left peg. Done his defending very well both games Last season, we variously had Schon, Williams and Murphy at left back at no little cost. And sent the best of the lot to Crewe for a season. OK he probably needed testing and some experience and it did him good clearly, but a loan till Jan would have been enough with the option of a recall, how did they miss his potential and sign 2 left backs instead of giving him a chance? So glad that's all behind us. Quote

Popular Post Johnnyrotten Posted August 9, 2025 Popular Post Posted August 9, 2025 I think there have been a few dismissive comments about Plymouth's performance that don't give us enough credit, but also downplay their threat. They didn't threaten much but god that first half was competitive, every single ball from the 1st minute to the last had to be won and competed for. That doesn't happen against a bottom half side, for a spell they were right on it, and we scored against the run of play. Not one of their players struggled in possession. That winger (was it Mumba or Watts?) tore into us a few times, and our ex winger Amaechi beat us a few times and forced Sheehan into a first half booking. They've been compared to an IE team but they were miles more fast and physical than that, they'll be winning games most weeks, we won't get such a tough 1st half against most teams in games when everyone agrees we played well. In the 2nd half I was so impressed with how we took the game to them "despite" being 1 up then 2 up. They looked beaten after our 2nd but we've had plenty games like that and know how it feels. This was effectively one of those wins against a top 6 side that we couldn't get under IE, a great win rather than one against a poor side. Quote

Sends a clear message that there aren't any "untouchables", unlike the Evatt era. Quote

But I assume most of us are still fuming at the line up, Johnston can't defend and we need to get shut, Tutu will never make a full back, Sheehan and Randall weak as piss, Toal never been the same player since the injury, too slow and gets bullied. Hopefully SS will see sense and get our best XI on the pitch next week. I've been one of the ones saying Tutu isn't a full back (and I still think he'll struggle there against most teams) but he played well today, fair play to him. Will be playing there against Barnsley next week? Unsure Quote

Unsure The telling thing in SS's post match was that 'I thought it was a game for certain individuals today', suggesting Barnsley away may be viewed differently. He also said that those were left out today weren't out because we'd lost. About seeing particular weaknesses in the opposition and using certain people to exploit them Quote
masi 51 Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 (edited) Great result, great performance..................Duberry mom, TSL better passing range on any keeper we have ever had Johnson take a bow........Midfield Simons everything we have not had since pre-covid Sheehan tackling back and Randell playing one or two balls only he can do in the squad. Burstow worked hard deserved his goal. Yes i questioned the team Schumacher picked.......Cogley never did much wrong in pre-season but Schumacher knew all about Bailey Mumbi, i thought Desmond did a job on him, yes his defending is not good but he kept the best winger in lge one.......Duberry aside quiet. Midfield great Simons and Sheehan excellent, yes i would have Morley in there and i am Erhahon biggest supporter but those two dis everything Morley and Erhahon could do and more. Forwards i think Gayle seemed a yard behind the pace but Plymouth could not give him room Randell and Duberry class Burstow deserved a goal Yes i thought we might have been light weight .... Any of you clowns out there who still hanker for last season.....Think this Conway and Morley loaned out and Murphy,Matete loaned in Edited August 10, 2025 by masi 51 Quote

marple whites Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 Quality that from start to finish. no passengers. few times we could have played in the overlap, but overall a great display. on to Barnsley Quote
Popular Post Ani Posted August 9, 2025 Popular Post Posted August 9, 2025 Couple of little things that might get missed today, SS comments about picking certain players for specific jobs is as big a difference as you can get from the previous idea that Plan B is to Plan A better. Today was good and Zero shots on goal conceded is a great for ever player that closed them down and battled all over the pitch. Keeper - Not done much keeping but his kicking is Premier League standard. The ball for the second was one of 3 or 4 inch perfect long balls. TuTu - scares me as a right back but did better as the game went on and his work rate was good Conway - Looks very good. Talk about needing to improve the defensive side but not seen that. Toal and GJ - As good a game that they have had for a while both as individuals and as a pair. Sheehan - I have said I do not see how he fits into ‘the system’ he did today. In first half he tracked back, won a big tackle and played a great ball forward. Best game for a long time. Simons - A proper midfield player, the like of which we have been calling out for. A couple of times when we had lost the ball he cleaned it up. Last season we would have been under pressure. Randel - Best game since he arrived. I think this number 10 will be a vital but tough one he did it well today. As with all the outfield players work rate was exceptional Gale - Of the attacking players maybe the quietest today but still contributed and the cramp shows he is not fully fit. Burstow - really impressive , deserved the goal ( can not remember a recent better team goal) superb home debut. ACD - WOW ! When you can talk about 90 minutes of football and then refer to ‘the touch’ and 99% will know the second you mean shows how good it was. Absolute machine up and and down the wing. SS - Steven Gerard sound a like had a fucking great day. Quote
gonzo Posted August 9, 2025 Author Posted August 9, 2025 That's more than a couple of things Agreed on all btw* Quote
