Surely it can only be a big derby for a team if its their main one?

Man U would put Liverpool and City well above Leeds for big games.

No they wouldnt.......Leeds is a more intimidating place for them to go to

Newcastle Sunderland

Southampton Pompey

maybe Man U Liverpool / Leeds

after that they're all just much of a muchness

glad to see Bolton Wigan ramping it up over time

Oxford and Swindon used to hate each other, no idea why?

As for us and genuine rivalry, i agree its never been a 2 way street on anyone remotely local for lots of reasons.  For me. Wolves was always a great BWFC rival without being a derby.

Newcastle v Sunderland

Man U v Liverpool

Southampton v Portsmouth

Norwich v Ipswich

Burnley v Blackburn used to be great to watch but now it’s just empty stands and a shit atmosphere

They're probably the biggest ones, but outside of those, games like Palace v Brighton, or Derby v Forest etc nobody really gives a shit other than those 2 teams

There's Derby's and there's Derby's! You get derbys were the rivalry is pure - Newcastle/Sunderland. Ipswich/ Norwich. Southampton/Portsmouth. Villa/ Brum etc... There's an argument to be had that some same city Derby's aren't  pure. The Mersey and Manchester derbys for example.

Bolton do not have a rival, fact! Over the years our biggest rivalry has changed with the wind. Man U. Blackburn. Bury. Wigan. Even bloody Stockport. None of these rivalries had ever been a two way "love-in".

I like this rival neutrality.

Yes I’m with you. I like we are disliked by many in the region. That will do me.

I firmly believe a “derby” is only really a same city thing

the rest are rivalry’s. Local or for any other matter

although I do think in some instances a local rival game generates more hatred than a same city derby as they’re often built on historical issues / fundamental different way of seeing the world

united hate Liverpool far more than city for example.

not sure I could cope with us having a rival in the same town. Get worked up enough over local games.

the stoke & Vale hatred is under estimated too. It’s pure, mouth foaming tackle

Had a similar experience to @SatanGreavsieon the train back from our relegation at Fulham a few years back.  Loads of Burnley fans on there as they'd just won promotion at Charlton.  Everyone in good spirits, all chatting about former players and matches between the two of us then someone mentioned Blackburn...

I went last season and you could hear the crowd from the other side of the town

Shrewsbury v Wrexham for a lively cross country rivalry.

Went to a Chester v Shrewsbury game in our PL days as we weren't playing Saturday (don't ask).

One set of fans were singing "we hate Wrexham more than you" which amused me.

Mansfield and chesterfield is over the miners strike

Think it had started before . My firm had office at Huthwaite and had lots of ex miners who’d kick off at drop of a hat

The two places are closer than most think, plus it's just a schlep along the A40.

Add that Oxford owner, & father of Ghislaine, Robert Maxwell, proposed a merger with an Oxford dominance about 30 years ago & it all makes more sense.
