VK came in for a lot of criticism from some Burnley fans but it's clear as day that he built some solid foundations in his time there and the squad that Parker has inherited looks good enough to walk the Championship, especially the younger plays who are starting to mature now.

The expectation is that some will move on as they have a lot on their books, but if Parker can't pick out a title winning team from that lot I'd be amazed.

Yes he got them a decent enough squad, because he had shit loads of money compared to most in the same division.  £17mil for Trafford says all we need to know about how careful he had to be with his budget (we got Baxter on a free).  Kompany may turn out to be a superb manager, but who really knows yet, completely unproven.

Yup. Pace finally put some money in to get them up the first time with VK and now they're at that level between the Champ and the Prem where the income they get will keep them there unless they cock it up or overstretch - a great problem to have.

A problem I wish we had TBH.

Only difference this time, is the club isn't sat on reserves of millions.  It was a reverse takeover where all the debt has been shifted onto the club.  First time they don't bounce back up and end up in a downward spiral (which will happen eventually) they're fecked.

Depends on how they manage the debt. They've already had more money than the debt in income and will continue to receive parachute payments. Another promotion and they'll be in the money again.

VK spent big but brought in a load of talented young players so in theory they won't need to spend fortunes going forward.

We'll see.

looks like they've gone down the route of offering long contracts like Chelsea - signed Wan Bissaka and Kilman on 7 year deals, presumably to keep the wages down

probably learned from giving Danny Ings 130k a week 18 months ago, who they are now trying to offload back to Southampton

We'll see.

Therein lies the crux of it. All well and good if you get the promotion, shit hits the fan if you miss it (as plenty have seen in the past). They might have defended against that by investing in players that they could sell in the event that they didn’t get promoted, which would be used to pay down the debt, but then you’re back to square one.

Isn't the real benefit to these 7 Yr contracts that, for FFP purposes, they can divide the cost into 7 or something like that ?

Great, until one becomes a liability. They will have to get a large return ... which simply goes to paying the deal off, or be paying that seventh off no matter what. Someone's found a loophole but will get their fingers burnt eventually.

From what I understand, the charges are as much around the non-provision of requested documents etc, as the finances per se.

Sport bulletin I heard earlier said they were (6-4) favourites for the title, but also 8-1 to be relegated!

Think it might also in some cases relate to inflated sponsorship deals with their own companies so as to pump more cash 

I think in general it comes to creative accounting and a complete denial they've done anything wrong

Most of them will be wazzed out/grouped together for consideration I reckon.

I do feel they're in for a bit of a kicking though: even if the dodgy deals are difficult to show, essentially not cooperating gives the Premier League an opening.
